How to start it...

No, this is not a joke! IE used to be installed so deeply ingrained in Windows that most people thought there was no other way to surf.

But now, they seem to be going in the opposite direction and making it available only to the most determined user  Roll Eyes

As webmasters, it is essential to test our sites in alternative browsers. When I purchased my current computer, I couldn't find any way to get to Internet Explorer 6. I just had an MSN Explorer icon which was a link to the Microsoft network. I eventually found that I had to cut and paste a link into the address bar of Windows Explorer which is normally used to navigate files on my PC. Then this activated Internet Explorer.

Now MS have closed this loophole with IE7, at least on my PC.

Since I have FireFox set as my default browser, there is no link or shortcut anywhere on my system to IE7 even after I installed the software! But I have found a backdoor to get this browser to show up (pictures Linux users rolling around on the floor laughing).

Well here it is: you need to have an .xml file in say your Documents folder. Browse this in Windows Explorer and hey presto, up pops IE7 trying to validate the xml! Crazy but true, this is how I start up IE7. btw You can use notepad to save any file as .xml and IE7 is a a great tool for checking your xml files.

that sounds reasonable since IE should have built-in parser for XML files and probably associated with them from beginning, guess that Firefox just not change this association.

Now it has tabbed browsing but clicking on hypertext links always seems to open a new window even when the options are set not too.

It's such a basic error and will result in $100's of millions in lost revenue I suspect.  Shocked I guess the love of Windows is so strong for them that they can't bear to imprison one in a tab  Cry

It is amazing that M$ is able to release essentially Beta products and make money off of them. Any other company or industry would just laugh them out of exisistence.

I also had download IE7 about 2 weeks ago. I don't feel really comfortable with it. To me IE6 is much better.
