He used Lightwave to render his lighthouse.

Lightwave is great for lots of stuff, but I think that Vue D'Esprit is better for scenic images like that.

Oh yeah Denis, I forgot to mention something about using VueD'Esprit's demo. You can actualy just download the program from E-onsoftware.com, change your resolution to the highest available, render the image really large, and then print the screen and resample (resize) it in an image editing program.

That way you won't have to pay for it, AND you get a great render.

But that's only if you wanted to try putting your lighthouse and mountains in a different program.

hmmm .. OK.  I use Vue myself.  Never really mastered Lightwave (although I've used modler to create some primitives)

Maybe I'll do a lighthouse render over the next couple days and see how it turns out.

I started with Bryce by the way - but Vue seemed so much more realistic in the final render, and World Builder is a great proggie - but over my head at the moment.

just wondered ... ty articutis

Hey, same here!

I think about everyone starts out with Bryce, but don't worry, use it for a few days and you'll find that Vue D'Esprit is actually EASIER to use.

Vue D'Esprit is wonderful... Even when using my own models, I still like the rendering capabilities of VD. I would suggest it to anyone.

I've never tried WorldBuilder, I don't have enough money for that right now. I've heard rumours it's not as great as VD, though.

Oh I've been using vue for months, and I love it.  My biggest problem is I'm not an artist ... LMAO.

I could never compete with the guys like Ryan Bliss, and Juergen Eilts, who do the digital blasphemy and shifted reality sites.  But I like playin with it.

I've rendered a ton of stuff ... (some ok ... some pretty bad) - but like I say - I enjoy doing it as a past time.

Most of the 1024x768 stuff I post in the members section is ok for folks who don't really know about the top of the line 3D renders and such.

http://www.web-friend.com/_members/wfwp/wfwall.html to bypass the login screen.

But yea - I like to play with it.  I never could get World Builder figured out yet.  I've seen what it could do - and I'm impressed, but it's a huge learning curve.

You like Ryan Bliss? He's alright, not one of my favourites. To me it looks like he puts tons of stuff out just to take up space, with him it seems like more quantity than quality.

Now Juergen Eilts is another story... I love his art! Someday I hope to be as good as he is. I just bought Vue off eBay (I tryed out their software to get the feel of it, and decided it was worth the money) and I'm getting it in the mail soon so I hope to have more time to spend on my 3d art.

Anyway, maybe when I'm rich I'll buy World Builder and try it out. I've always thought that the harder the program, the better the results... I'm not sure if that's true, but it's always seemed that way.

You want to hear something cool? I won picture of the day at E-on software a few weeks ago- Isn't that awesome?!! I was so excited, I ran out of my room screaming... My mom was relieved to hear it wasn't something bad Wink

By the way, don't discourage yourself by saying you're not an artist. Because I think you are, you seem to be doing a great job IMO.

I say the same stuff all the time to myself too Undecided

Well, Bliss is one of the better known ones no doubt - and I do like a lot of his stuff - I dropped my membership about a year ago, it seemed like he was just pumping out stuff just to put it out there, and the time and effort wasn't what it was in his early days.  I know, he has a new wife now, and baby on the way - so it's not something I'm condemming him for or anything.  I still like his work though.

I looked at your profile, didn't see a home page  - do you post any of your work?  I'd love to see some.

yea - he's something else.  Doesn't post often anymore - but when he does, it's worth the trip over to get it.  Unbelievable.  Nice to run into someone who knows who he is!

Very cool.  I've been in the computer field a loooong time - so to be honest, I have a lot of friends and contacts that helps a bunch when it comes to software - not often I pay retail price for software anymore unless it's something really new that I can't wait for - or off the beaten track that not many folks have.  Funny thing though, newer hardware isn't as easy to come by.  I can get a modem or vid. card and all pretty cheap (usually used or a little outdated) - but most of it costs - I do the expo stuff, so that helps on prices too.

AND - Congrats on the eBay thing!

I didn't mean it so much in a self deprecating way, only that I usually get ideas when I see something else, and think - "that's nice, but I'd like it better if it was this way"  Then I take a shot at it.  I can make a button, or background and all - just that being an artist in the sense of creating new graphical work is not really where my heart is and all.  I enjoy it - but only as a hobby.  I do appreciate your kind words though - and I guess in a sense, a webmaster (or any kind of desktop publishing, etc.) is an art form in its own kind of way.  So maybe in that sense I want to be a good artist.

sorry folks I've split your discussion in order not to confuse if someone want to reply for post.
as for progs I start from 3D Studio, later switch to 3D Max and later to Lightwave and stay with it... as for AWB I saw only v2, and try demo of v3...
as for Vue it's look cool but it crashes all the time I run it... Sad don't find a solution how to fix it yet...

Hey, that's okay... I had it in mind anyway.

I have a problem with getting off-topic anyway... That's why I always hated writing summaries on books and all, because I'd just get off on something and lose track of the meaning of the story.

BTW, what kind of processor and OS do you have? Vue freezes on me every once in a while, but that's usually because I sticks all of the objects into one big clump.

Maybe you should try seperating into layers-- Then you can hide the layers you're not using at the moment. I've found doing this causes everything to run much smoother.

If this doesn't work, are you using the trial version? Maybe it's unstable.

By the way, sorry for editing your post there- I realized what I said about Ryan Bliss sounded mean (I didn't write it that way intentionally, it's just the way it came out), so I went ahead and edited it, along with what you quoted.

I don't want to sound arrogant or rude, but sometimes what you say comes across entirely different from the way you want it.

That's just incase you're wondering why it says "edited by..." at the bottom of your message. I didn't actually edit anything you wrote, jus something I did.

I'm on Athlon 1300 and on Win 2000, but I think problem is covering in my GeForce... because I've found that other people have same problem with it... I'm trying now to reslove this problem.
