I always thought UK house prices were crazy. This house was within 20 miles of where I used to live but way more expensive....

It's only $139 million bucks!

it looks very nice IMHO. Andy, you should be lucky to live in place where houses look like this.
Anyway I can't imagine that much of cash as most cash I've ever had in my hands is 4000USD Smiley

That's still quite a lot of cash to have in your hand, I would normally hold my credit card  Wink

p.s. you can only see the perimeter fence unless you got access to the special tin of white paint like CarpMad  Grin

it is so nice to know that 6 of the top 10 most expensive homes in the world are in the US. That would explain why I can't afford to buy my own place.

Average price of a 2 bedroom house in the DC metro area is $500K. it is just outragous.

Where I live now, prices are going down and I'm renting. I can't stand the idea of mortgages that you pay all your working life to buy a basic home.

I want to enjoy myself while I still can and not be working hard all my life to pay for a house that I barely see due to too much work away from home.

I think the French are happy to rent. They have a nice lifestyle with the cafe culture and the wine. It's only the British in France breaking their backs rebuilding old wreck property just to say they own a cute cottage in the middle of nowhere.

Thought I answered this one, but guess it got lost in cyberspace.

Andy, I can't imagine living in a home like this.    I mean, how the heck would you call the kids to dinner?      Smiley

I remember one time when I was driving to work on the longest parking lot in the world (Hiway 75 in Dallas) and was stuck in traffic.    I designed a house in my head.   Really beautiful, on the side of a hill, with gardens, swimming pool, fabulous master suite with sun deck, overlooking a lake.   Then I realized we'd have to have at least a maid and butler and cook to handle it.    That's when I designed a guest house down by the pool and moved into it mentally, leaving the house, lifestyle, and servants for my husband and kids.    I can still see that floorplan in my head today.

Nope, I'm happy with 1000 sq feet that's MINE, ALL MINE.   Even clean it once in a while.    Only thing I could wish for is washer and dryer hookups.

I think some homes need to be very big to protect the occupents from kidnap etc. In a huge home, intruders can't tell where they will be. Then as the home grows in size you need room for staff rooms etc.

What I would like is a super-luxury home that is small in a great location. But it would have to look plain or even run-down from the road-side so as not to attract attention from criminals. The Ferrari and Bugatti would need to be in an underground garage with a lift up to the battered old wooden garage on the surface.

I don't ask for much  Grin

This made me laugh. The town where I grew up was pretty large. Not a city by any means, but it was still pretty big. There was a bad section of town where you didn't go out at night unless you lived there, and then only in groups. There was this one house that looked so run down. The paint was peeling away. The screen door had the screen hanging off of it. It blended into the rest of the neighborhood quite well. Once on the inside, it was absolutely beautiful. There was expensive antique furniture, they had a set of gold flatware, crystal chandellier. I was shocked to see the inside of it.

You got the idea! Why show off? Actually, now I live in a 70 year old house in the middle of senior residences so it is great when you only need lock the front door. Even this behaviour is considered unusual since sales reps expect to simply step inside and shout if anyone is home. The broadband 50Mbps connection from the server etc. is disguised as a pair of old wires dangling over the roof.

I've heard of such garages on Discovery, they told that monthly fee for using it cost about 22000$... for such money you can but 2 room flat over here with view on the sea Wink (at least could year ago, this year I didn't check).

But idea is not to show off is very wise one, many people here follow it when possible as criminals always looking for new victims...

$22,000 a month would get you a lovely place here. That is a lot of money for rent, even for here. A 3 bedroom house in a nice area runs about $3,500/month. That is either buying or renting.

That kind of rent for a garage doesn't make any sense to me. You could hire any standard car such a Bentley for less money whenever you needed it.

Maybe it's only for the rich and famous who need their cars to be security checked and armour plated?
