Genetically Altered Bacteria Could Block Malaria Transmission
August 2 - Scientists have discovered a way to help stop the spread of malaria by genetically altering a bacterium that infects about 80 percent of the world’s insects. Malaria is primarily transmitted through mosquito bites and kills more than a million people every year.

Thanks for sharing it, Joe!
from what I've learned such things actually could cause more harm than help... With time nature evolve and this start act against us...
Good example is flu which keep mutating each year and new dangerous forms keep appearing.
Another good example is pox and AIDS, after termination of first we've opened door to second probably even more dangerous. So such news make me wonder what would happen after this(don't get me wrong, I appreciate you for posting this news, just believe that it's not right to change nature around us so much... So I'll keep waiting for more interesting news from you Wink ).

Genetically Altered Bacteria Could Block Malaria Transmission
I am not sure what scares me more, the fact that they are altering bacteria or that bacteria are mutating on their own.

Since humans found antibiotics, we have manage to cause so many bacteria to mutate into super bacteria. these are more deadly and antibiotics don't work on them. Now here we are mutating a bacteria on purpose?

Nice point. But, I would hope it could lead to new discoveries that could help us all in the long run.

It just scares me becasue we really don't know what we are doing. This is usually when the problems start. Then again, if it wasn't for people taking changes we would still have to worry about chicken pox.

I'm glad we don't have to worry about chicken pox anymore because I never got them when I was young. If I got it now imagine what that could do to me. It could be life threatening. Although, I think they have come up with some new antibiotics and vaccines for it haven't they?

They have a vaccine for it, but not treatment once you get it.
