You may laugh but www.Webring.com has a huge number of webrings and their site gets good search engine ranking. It seems like an easy way to get targetted traffic to your site.

Their webring navigation box is installed on your site by cutting and pasting a small bit of code. The code is the same for all the webrings that you might join so your visitors will only see one navigation bar even if you are a member of 100 rings.

In the old days, there was a big problem of the ring being broken as sites went out of business or people broke the code. Now they use a robot to test the sites in a regular time frame and when you join a ring. Then they can automatically keep the rings working.

I noticed there are still some websites obscuring the navigation panel in a frame though, but hopefully they are in the minority.

You can apply to join up to 20 rings at a time while your applications are pending. I am finding around half of the ring leaders respond quickly to approve or disapprove my site to allow me to apply to join more relevant rings. In my Niche, there were around 170 and I plan to join all of the relevant rings. It is slow going at around 10 per day but it seems like a golden opportunity for life time free targeted traffic.

In my blog post http://internetincomeclub.com/using-webrings-to-get-traffic/57/ I have mentioned that I have used a custom landing page rather than my home page. This is being accepted by nearly all the ring masters.

It remains to be seen how much traffic I will get from this exercise but I will update my blog post as the results come in after I finished joining all the rings.

I wouldn't expect much traffic from 1 webring unless you are lucky. It's like link exchange traffic. It depends on the quality of sites next to you in the ring or at least their traffic volume. That's why I suggested using webring.com and joining lots of them. The key point is that you only need to host one navigation banner on a sub-page of your site. I have seen some traffic to my webring landing page but at the moment I assume it is the ring masters checking out my site.

I have just come to the end of applying to join all the rings in my category and still many are pending applications. So it will be at least a month until I can tell how useful this exercise has been. Now I have been accepted into 45 web rings so let's watch the traffic flood in  Grin It was easier than applying to directories since auto-complete was active and I saved all my submission data in a text file to cut and paste when required.

I dont think i would join a Webring, as yes it does drive ALITTLE traffic into your site, but it does also drive traffic out of your site.

Actually you can only gain traffic if you do it right. I mentioned in my first post

I have mentioned that I have used a custom landing page rather than my home page.

This is not linked to from anywhere else except related web rings.

I just logged into my account to check how many rings I have been accepted into. There are 52 web rings.

Now let's check my web stats...

So far this month (8/9 days) no visitors to the web ring page  Tongue

Last month there was 49 but probably just the ring masters checking my page.
