Seems that Microsoft with it's ambition to conquer all aspects of electronic market now want to start a war on the most popular free search engine Google...
MSN already start some experiments with it's new MicrosoftPrototypeCrawler - newbiecrawler@hotmail.com and it already seen by many people in their site logs.
you can find more info on this subjects here:
http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/030402/tech_microsoft_google_1.html
http://www.microdocs-news.info/newsGoogle/2003/04/18.html

BTW Google using Linux for it's servers and Microsoft plan to use it's NT servers for this purpose... hope this new SE will not be so buggy as Windows itself  Grin

Hi Sue, I've saw this article before and I don't think that this is the sign of Google fall... also I don't think that Google is under threat of Microsoft... I would rather believe that LookSmart with it's new Grub project I think that search engines will stay with us for good, of course they could loose some amount of audiotry they posses now but they will stay in the market... RSS couldn't give all things which is offered by search engine.
Personally I also start to use www.AllTheWeb.com and www.ScrubTheWeb.com but I still use www.Google.com on regular basis and I think many of other people will do so... also Google isn't stay in place and work all the time on developing new projects so if you like it IMHO you have nothing to worry about as it's not under threat from anyone...

Hello,
well, that's a  relief Cheesy
I went along with the flow, and did all "googly" things, you know, tool bar, page rank etc and
total belief as so highly recommended, preferrred to think it is the "number one" Smiley
Actually I use  wwwAlltheweb.com as well, and some kind souls from somewhere, (my little nieces in UK) put me on to Wisenut in UK but I have to see first, if I like the feel of it) have only just heard about that one. Cool

Hello,
I wonder, did you ever see Google in this role! Tongue

"If I asked you to name the internet's dominant operating system, you'd probably nominate Linux, Windows or possibly Solaris. My answer would be none of the above. Increasingly, our most value-adding interface layer is Google—and our industry's annals of operating system wars and browser wars are looking ever more like ancient history."

Hello,
Oh dear, is this leading to a 'black hat' versus 'white hat' situation Sad
Will the 'white hat' make it?

I can assure you, Google will not let this happen. Thease companys cannot fall to their knees infront of Microsoft... I Love Microsoft, but I hate the way that they treat other companys. Just once I would like to see a company bigger than Microsoft start war with Microsoft. Is their a company bigger than microsoft?... I personally like to watch the internal wars of the 2 Major OS Companys ... Microsoft vs. Apple

Umm... Disney? Grin

Actually, seeing that Bill Gates is the richest man in the US, he's probably got the biggest company in the US too..

I know how you feel... Personally, I've been very satisfied with Microsoft products. I know the masses beg to differ, but this is the way I[/b] feel. Besides my recent computer crash (Which wasn't Bill's problem, it was Gateways), my OS has been working like a charm, and just every other program of his I use.

hmmm ... looks like everyone is on the same page anyway.

Have to agree for the most part, I do like MS products, but that's a fairly new feeling really.  I was doing Netscape, Linux, x-Windows up until 98.  I think a lot of it has to be (Like Steve Urkel always said to that girl) "I'm wearinnnnn' you down baby"!

In the SE world, I have to admit, when I first heard the news about MS (and don't forget Looksmart) were going to declare war on Google, I was livid.  (think  I posted on it here somewhere a long time ago - it was the thread that made me join).

Anyway - I noticed some big changes out there in SE land after that.  Yahoo started to get back to business with the purchase of Inktomi. (I think they got too caught up in the portal, email, chat, news ... be everything to everyone corporate strategy).  Then Google and Yahoo renew their agreement to share data.  And I've notice a few other ones lately working togeather with Ask and Tehoma.

I think some of the SE folks had a heads up on MS after the Netscape AOL mess, and sort of pre-emptivly decided they weren't gonna get shot down without a fight.  I can't see Google going away (at least not overnight).  They've gotten tooooo big.

What I would like to see is a preemptive strike at MS on the search thing where there's a better choice (easier to set up) where the search gets sent to Google instead of MSN.  (Yes I changed my a long time ago, but it wasn't in the initial setup that I was ever offered the choice - I had to track down the options).

Have I ranted on long enough yet? Huh

I think that competition is always good but I a bit scared when M$ want to be competitor... I would prefer M$ staying out of search market since I belive it will be build mainly about cash scheme (since even beta crawler asking for money in order to index your site), and SE built by this scheme IMHO couldn't bring good results...  So I would prefer competeing of Google, ATW and possibly Altavista or Overture(if it goes about PPC programs like Adsense) since fair competeing could only do good for market.
But let's wait and see what MSN will finally come up with.
