i thought id start a new thread as its a different problem

basicaly i just put the forum in maintenance mode but now theres no way of me logging in?
ive done some searching and ive found out theres supposed to be a login window on the screen underneath where it says upgrading the forum but there isnt
ive tried going to forum/login.php but still i get the same thing so i cant upgrade and i cant switch it back off either so the forum is offline at the moment until i can find out what to do as it must be a bug
ive tried using i.e firefox and mozila but i get the same
i read that clearing cache and cookies might help but that didnt and ive even booted up in win again to see if it was just a problem with ubuntu but it wasnt
can i do it in cpannel? im looking through it all now but i havnt found anything for it yet but i dont realy no what im looking for

any idea`s anyone?

ive managed to change it from the maintenance mode now
il post how i did it as i hate posts without fixes
i dl smf/settings.php with my ftp program and at the top it says  i just changed the 1 to a 0
Code:
########## Maintenance ##########
# Note: If $maintenance is set to 2, the forum will be unusable!  Change it to 0 to fix it.
$maintenance = 0; # Set to 1 to enable Maintenance Mode, 2 to make the forum untouchable. (you'll have to make it 0 again manually!)

but this gave me another error?
now the screen says
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

im looking for a fix and il post it as soon as i find it unless anyone can tell me whats up with it?

Your poor thing lol! Been there! You sound  so familar! I went through a lot of time in the hot place at one time building my forum. Members were disappearing and could not log in, Threads were disappearing, Admin dissappeared a couple times lol and I could not  login.! I think my members really thought it never would get straightened out, but they stuck around and now all that seems so long ago. Good luck and hope you get everything working soon. Wink

i managed to switch maintenance mode off but i still havnt found a fix for it not showing the loggin box when in maintenance mode
so ive still not been able to add a shoutbox or anything as i cant log in if i switch maintenance mode on and im not keen on instaling it without it being in maintenance mode incase something goes wrong with the tables

has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it? ive looked on the smf site and plenty of people have the same problem but there just told how to switch it back off which i know how to do but id prefer it to be fixed so i can instal things Undecided

I think that installing such thing as shoutbox should be pretty safe to do in online mode. Also I never had such problem probably because I use permanent login and I simply doesn't logout during maintenance, just try to find a not very busy moment. If you wish I can perform installation for you or be online in case something goes wrong.

PS if you have backup of your database actually you have everything, and could perform fresh install anytime and wouldn't lost your posts.

ahh cool if its pretty safe i might il try it tomorrow as people keep asking me when il sort it  Grin
i think i better instal a ftp prog first as i dont want it at the top of the forum id prefer it so its not on view to non members same as it was last time
that will be good if your about when i do it just to be safe  Grin i do get verry worried when i have to instal things  Grin but we just blame little minx (a member)for pressing the BIG red button  Grin

i do keep backups but i have tried putting a backup back up but it didnt work but i probley done something wrong and it was the last forum not this one so possibly different
thanks dennis il give it a try
