welcome to our community, cavpete! It's nice to have one more Linux user on board Wink
Sorry for not replying right away but as Andy have said we was busy with converting forum software, but it's over now.
Regarding your problem, if say truth Wi-Fi is probably the only thing I'm not worked with(just because I doesn't have wifi myself) so wouldn't be very helpful.
Carpmad told that would post solution lately, if this solution doesn't work, please let us know here and we'll try to find other solution.

sorry about the slow reply pete ive only just logged into ubuntu again  ahhhh blisss  Grin

im glad i saved this i clicked post just as my forum went down

you can use your windows drivers for it and instal them with ndiswrapper or i think the following driver is reported to work too ive copied the txt to save you trawling through 20 threads like i did to get this info so sorry if its a bit confusing

I have a UR054g(R01) v1.1 and got it working using ndiswrapper and the following driver
ftp://ftp.inexq.com/Drivers/UR054g(R01)3325.zip

heres the ndiswrapper page itl tell you what to do , i was just c&p the code and save on floppy so i can just c&p it into a terminal saves typing  Grin
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper

Forgot to mention you need to add the following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
to prevent it loading the default modules ubuntu tries to use. im not sure of the command hopefully someone else can help with that it might be something like      sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist  but thats probley wrong im im pretty much guessing with verry little experience 2 wk user  Grin
add this to the file and save

blacklist prism54
blacklist islsm
blacklist islsm_usb
blacklist islsm_device

..................................
thiese following links are for a slightly diff modem and he done it without using ndiswrapper so you can semi copy what they do , thats the way i done things just find a how2 that you can understand but instal and move the proper files

http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Rt2x00drivers

Another useful site for me was:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WirelessTroubleshootingGuide

have a look alos at:

http://linux-wless.passys.nl

just ask and il see if i can help but as you know im new to this aswell

good luck

Best to ditch the modem and use broadband then it's a simple network connection.

Oops sorry, forgot, the uk is still on BT cables  Tongue

Hopefully the Linux task force get mobilized soon...

Just having fun Andy  Wink

hi Cavpete, sorry for taking it so long to me to answer you, but I was pretty busy last days. Anyway today if nothing goes wrong I should be able to help you if I can. So if you don't mind I'll try to figure out what's your problem.
It seems that I'm unable to access ubuntu articles so if it's possible maybe you can save me a page and send my way?
Here is also information I'll need:
1. Can you execute following commands and print output here lsmod, lspci. Just if you don't know you can direct output from screen to file, like this lsmod > lsmod.txt this would create lsmod.txt file containing all the info.
2. Can you give exact model name of your USB device.
3. Please go to console e.g. by "CTRL+ALT+F1", insert USB and look what would appear in Model and Vendor fields.

BTW it seems that this site wasn't mentioned by Carpmad http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/ but if you don't have to read it, please supply me with this info and I'll try to find a working solution for you.
