hello again everyone
hope your all well , sorry i havnt been around for a bit ive been having a complete nightmare lately and today it got worse

basicaly i dont know if you remember but i had a few niggly problems with my forum but just put up with them
i tried updating my forum a while ago but it messed up and i had to revert back to the backup so didnt/couldnt update

well today as my forum was out of date the host suspended my acount temp until i updated everything
well i think my problem stems from when i instaled the forum to /forum2 to instal all the mods and then i renamed the /forum2 to /forum1
but now i think its using things from a different database that the original /forum1 was using? sorry im dumb when it comes to this

well the host kindly helped and put up a fresh forum and copied over the data for me but now i get a error  grrrrr im pulling my hair out and getting verry tense which isnt helping as i think i slipped a disk last thursday so this error is actualy causing me physical pain too  Sad

any way heres the error im getting when i try and log in

Code:
Error in obtaining userdata

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1054 Unknown column 'user_login_tries' in 'field list'

SELECT user_id, username, user_password, user_active, user_level, user_login_tries, user_last_login_try FROM phpbb_users WHERE username = 'toasted'

Line : 65
File : login.php

i realy am stuck without a clue how to fix this id even pay to have it fixed although i am verry skint at the moment but id do anything just so i can relax again

hope someone can help

Hi Carpmad, I'm glad to see you again, but sorry to hear about your trobules!
Guess that solution suggested by your host could be really one of the easiest ones, if you really decide to give up with phpBB and switch to SMF I can assist you in merging the way I can or even perform installation for you if you'd like.
As for current error it seems that database filed doesn't contain this field "user_login_tries" not sure what happend to it, and guess I couldn't say more without looking at database itself... Sad

Hi carpmad, my forum is in perl and is very efficient. I use a free software from cutecast.

I had some simliar problems when I was making some changes and used a sample forum for the work.

You cannot just change the name when you want to make the change from forum 2 -to forum 1- because all your data files  will be different.

If you like the software from cutecast and wanted to give it a try, I would be able to answer questions as I had plenty of my own problems building the forum and getting ewverything working rright, but am not really able to help you with your current problem. Good luck!.

Carpmad, I've just perform quick installation of phpBB2.0.14 which I had downloaded it's pretty old one I guess, and it doesn't contain this field, after qucik search on Google I've find out that this new field appear on new versions of phpBB and you probably perform upgrade lately as well or hosting folks upload outdated database which doesn't contain this field am I right?
if so, please check out this solution, http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=402361 I was already wish to give you solution about creating this field in phpMyAdmin but seems that there is script named update_to_latest.php which should do this job for you.
if it doesn't work and you have your database backed up, you may try to execute this query in phpMyAdmin:
Quote
ALTER TABLE `phpbb_users` ADD `user_login_tries` TINYINT( 1 ) NOT NULL ;
I'm not sure if it helps or just render another problem with old database... so I would advice to try mentioned script first.

hello senso hello rosie
thanks for your speedy replies

basicaly im going to have to reinstal lots of mods anyway so changing to smf wouldnt bother me aslong as i can keep my data if i can keep the karma points after new instal too that would be even better but im expecting that wont be possable but again its no biggy aslong as i can get the forum up to date by friday as in running
i can add mods as i find them and i realy liked the points system on here with the shop and being able to change things for other users lol i think that would be great fun and theyd realy like that and i couldnt find anything like that for phpbb

i think id prefer to change to smf over any other as it should be easier to get help as ive never heard of that cutecast forum but i dont know much so thats not supprising but il look into it more rosie thanks

ive been searching for info on this and as you say senso that table was added in .18 i think and i think im on .15 then i tried updating to the latest or maybe one from latest as the hosts pre instaled software isnt always totaly up to date
im realy not sure what to do i can run the update file no problem as ive done that before but id have to dl the package for the update and update the phpbb version again as the host put my original forum back up until i sort this so no errors at the moment
but i feel like a real pain when i keep asking him to put the original forum back up as hes done it so many times already today for me to only get the same problems

would it be easy for me to change to smf myself?
i realy dont have a problem trusting you with my pw and details at all senso (nobody else has them) so if you think i might struggle and you realy wouldnt mind just changing the forum to the basic instal id be happy to pay you although i havnt got much at the moment but im sure i could sort something out if it isnt too much trouble for you to do it and you have time spare i realy dont want to put you out
im willing to learn though as im not lazy i just dont know much about all this otherwise id do it myself in a flash

the worst thing about all this is ive recently changed to linux (1-2 weeks) and this is the first time ive have to reboot into windows since getting it online Grin but i have got less hair since instaling it  Grin

all the best
terron

I didn't convert from phpBB myself but from what I know if you have really big member or message database it could take quite some time to convert it and some old messages could be lost IMHO(I doesn't know this for sure), but generally it should be easy task(at least for me).

Man, I wasn't going to charge you even a cent for anything Smiley , all help I offer on forums is free of charge. So if you wish me to do this I'd be glad to help you out, I'm also got holiday recently so it shouldn't be too hard to find a time for this operation.

actually if you don't have SSH access on your hosting most of things you would have to do yourself even if I help you out Roll Eyes I simply doesn't have much traffic on account and you'll have to upload all things yourself.
Maybe you have some instant messenger ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, AIM so we can meet there and perform installation step by step? I guess this would be the easiest way to do this.

Congratulations with moving to free OS! Smiley I'd be glad to see you on our Linux board!

i seem to have hit my first hurdle

i instaled smf in fantastico and tried to convert it but it said i didnt have permissions
Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it."

i asked support if they could help and he sent me this

You currently use two different databases. You should either copy over the SMF tables into your phpBB2 database or install SMF from scratch (not via Fantastico) into the database where your phpBB2 installation is.

MySQL user rights can be changed via cPanel->MySQL databases.

..
i did try and instal it myself by ftp but my ftp prog crashed at the last min and i realised i could do it in fantastico instead , oviousley this wasnt the case and i havnt got a clue how to put it in the same database as suggested any ideas how that could be done?

thanks

Hi Carpmad,

sorry to hear about your problems.

I am experienced with CPANEL.

If you like I can install a fresh version of SMF for you.

I just need to know you have all your data saved to your computer as a database backup. I wouldn't like to wipe out your forum posts.

Then you can upload the posts.

That was what I was thinking about.

If you are going to be shut down. I need your hosting login details. Then I can then upload and install a clean version of SMF and leave it for an expert like senso to sort out the forum. I can check your webspace is clear of garbage too.

You can PM me the details of your FTP login etc. p.s. it is late at night here (Japan) so don't spend too much time on this.
