Grin   I am having a 5 month old lab crawling all over me to post this! My new puppy does not get it. I am comforting him and he is doing alright, but was really freaked!

I can see the fireworks from my front porch, some of them (the low ones) hidden through the trees. I am not leaving my dog. Maybe next year.! Grin  Hope some other American can get some pics for our international buddys!

I spent the evening tucked in bed. I didn't watch the fireworks either. I did turn on the television to watch them, but they kept changing the zoom and center of focus. It is very disappointing when they do that.

Still having trouble with the poor little dog today...One thing us Americans are known for is running a good thing into the ground. I suppose there will be firecrackers going off through the rest of the week and on into the weekend.

Pet owners have their hands full!

I have always been a little ambiguous about fireworks, being  concerned about global warming and the depreciation of the Ozone, as I am.

They are beautiful and exciting , yes, but how much damage are we doing? Consider that every little town and big city in America blasts the skies with the smoky things all in a nite, to say nothing of New Years, or all the other countires that celebrate with fireworks.

I live across the river from a major fireworks dispay and am all stuffed up the morning after the Fourth, every year, so I know they do contibute to polution.

Maybe we should go back to the big drive-in theater screens and start a NEW TRADITION of watching the fireworks on a huge screen instead of  tearing up the Ozone for a nite of pleasure? Roll Eyes

Here is an interesting article...(second story down)on the side effects of fireworks~

Too bad that none make photos from this event, hopefully one day we'll be able to see some reportage from firework even from US as it seems to be one of the symbols of America to make great fireworks.

it seems that almost all home pets scared of fireworks Tongue But with my cat it's easier as she just hide in a waredrobe and sleep there during explosions... Smiley I guess there is some good solutions used in some countries like China(not sure if it still act there or was cancelled) but few years ago because of massive injuries from fireworks they was banned in city area and could only be used outside living sector. Guess it could solve the problem but I can't find a way how to prevent people from firing petard and running away  Huh

As for ozone, although I'm pretty much concerned with ecology as well fireworks doesn't seems to me as heavy pollutant comparing to factories and automobiles... I can't believe that it harm to ozone more than some industrial company or maybe I just didn't seen real fireworks as here they last at most 5-10 minutes (depend on the city budget I guess and produce big cloud of smoke which disappear for 30 minutes if there is no strong wind)...

So do fireworks really last for all night there? (as we have all night fireworks only for New Year night but it's mainly those small things fired by usual people and not localized at one place).

Denis, the major fireworks displays only last for 30-40 minutes, but private individuals are setting them off all over too and those are the ones that we are still hearing.

I am sorry about the pictures. I put fresh batteries in my camera and was going to try and get a few, but my puppy was so scared he was between my feet every step I took all evening.

I was just concentrating on trying to keep him from being too traumatised which was a JOB!

hard to imagine 40 minutes of fireworks I should say... Guess I would become bored witht them but from other side there is plenty time to make good shot from photographer point of view.

He(pup) is still totally out of whack! He's very perceptive to his environment and very smart, very spirited etc...
When he grows into himself , I think he will be a fine dog and companion...we just need to get past these explosions lol and go from there!

Remember this guy??

WOW! He was only a handful and he still is a handful! Grin
