Hi soccerman88 and welcome to our community! there is a way to password protect any directory on your site and give access there only people you want to, it's done by .htaccess file.
The easiest way to do this is probably use "Web Protect" feature of CPanel if your hosting account posses it. You'll need just to go to directory you want to protect and specify all info there...
If you don't have CPanel but have Telnet access you can use this tutorial http://megs.com/help/access.html (you'll need Telnet access to create password files.
If you don't have anything but FTP access you have to download something like this utility which will help you in creating passwords:
http://hoohoo.ncsa.uiuc.edu/docs/tutorials/user.html or use this online generator for creating encrypted passwords: http://fase2.kaoskind.com/

Hay,
There are many ways to do it, .htaccess is a good tool if you are on Apache/Linux I do not believe this will work on a Apache/Windows combo. I know it will not on IIS/Windows. Still you can script this if you need to............. Cool

Without server-based password protected pages, it's difficult using sessions in PHP or the very hard way using cookies in Javascript. Perl and cgi-bin are other paths to blocking visitors to your site  Wink
