Started a free web directory, about one month old.  No reciprocal link required, it is search friendly and has direct links.  You can submit your sites to..

Welcome to WKey, Cindy! Have just check your directory, it have nice and clean layout, good job!
BTW I wonder what's the primary aim of your directory, is it going to be more targeted for webmasters seeking inbound links (as appears from name in my opinion)?

Yes, the main aim is for webmasters to submit their sites to gain links and hopefully higher ranking on the search engines.  Hope this answers your question, I am kind of new on the forums and still trying to gain knowledge. Smiley

I would never charge for directory submission since it's hardly likely to be a good return on investment for customers and it's a win-win situation.

My directory is PR5 on the index, PR3 on sub pages and most listings have had over 100 page views this year. If you used PPC you would pay $'s for those. My script ensures your link is keyword rich and search engine friendly. Just don't abuse the service and you can have a free long term link to your site.

I just do it to get traffic to my site and user-generated content. It costs me nothing so I don't charge a cent.

Andy, I believe that asking for money from commercial sites is fair way of doing business, and having paid submission really lower abuse of directory from what I can see.

Also $1 dollar fee is not much at all but should really filter out some bad sites.
