I had some good success with landing pages before. But they were so bad to look at that I am too embarassed to show them here.

Does anyone else use landing pages?

i.e. pages that are arrived at after Google Adword clicks etc. to do some pre-selling before the click to the affiliate site.

Lately I have read a couple of eBooks by people who have made millions on the web and found they use these too, but they look nice. So I'm working on making mine look good too.

Landing pages don't need to be fancy, flashy or extremely colorful.  I think what you write on a landing page is more important than how it looks.

I've hired web designers to do landing pages for me that I thought would pull like crazy because it looked so professional (and so cool).  It had all the bells and whistles: flash, audio, etc.  And what happened?  Nothing.  Why?  Because mylanding page contained virtually nothing except pretty pictures and a few blurps of meaningless text.

You've got to know the objective of your landing page before setting one up.  Is it to presell or capture names, email, telephone numbers... or what?

Most of my landing pages are designed now to capture names and email before sending them to an affiliate sales page.  I don't even try to sell on my landing pages.

All I want to do is give the visitor something in exchange for their personal information so I can follow up with them later using emails.  99% of visitors won't buy directly from the sales page I send them to on their first visit.

So, I want to make sure I've got their info to follow up with.  It takes 5, maybe 7 exposures to your product before people are ready to part with the hard earned money.

Your landing pages must answer a burning question in the mind of the visitor... and that is... what is in it for me?  What do I get if I stay on your landing page and read your message.  What will I get if I give you my email address?

Therefore, learning to write good copy is key in having people stick around on your landing page long enough to do (read your review, get your free report, email course, etc.) what you want them to do.

If you want to learn how to write mouth-watering copy for landing pages, you could invest in a copywriting course.  It will pay huge dividends.  There are many good ones on the internet.  But my favorite is the online home study course by James D. Brausch at www.StatisticalCopywriting.com.

Hmm... I thought this wasn't allowed? Perhaps I didn't interpret the AdWords legal verbage correctly.

I think Google are clamping down on landing pages and squeeze pages, so it looks like this method is out now.

It seems like adwords will only be useful to drive traffic to your own product pages and home page.

This will probably encourage the use of web site generating software that is designed to capture free search results. So the banning of landing pages will produce 1000's of extra duplicate-content sites in their index.

The latest tool I saw generates 1000 pages easily. It jumbles up articles and feeds etc. Maybe this will actually increase Adwords revenues due to the millions of extra adsense ads that will be out there?

Look out for these tools and training in the marketing Guru's newsletters.
