I've just hear on news that there are day without immigrants in USA.
Maybe someone who live there could tell his/her experiences about it? As local news told that country was paralized by this event...

UndecidedI know many Americans are getting fed up with the Mexican illegals/immigrants flooding our country then complaining and wanting America to change to their wants and needs. I personally am sick of it! Where I live in Portland we have had a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE lot of Mexicans move to our city in the last 2 years.

As far as our country being paralized without the immigrants? Well, workers suddenly not showing up for work is of course going to have some impact. I believe our country would be a whole lot better off if they didn't show up for work permanently and went back where they came from. Angry

I am a firm believer that we need immigrants. We do not need illegal immigrants. I am so tried of listening to these illegals telling the world that they have done nothing wrong. Well they have. The came into our country illegally. They know that they can be deported at any time.

They demand that they be permitted to get drivers lisences, insurance, social services and that we all learn their language. This is a shame. Every other country in the world makes you learn that countries language if you want assistance. here? No, we must all learn Spanish to accommodate these people who are breaking the law to begin with. You cannot call a bank, government office, or even most corporations without getting an automated message that says "Press one for English." Why should I have to do that? Will Mexico do that for us? I think not.

Here in DC it isn't as big of an issue as it is in other states. For the most part most of our immigrants are legal or they are too scared to protest. I know LA was in bad shape yesterday.

Personally I think INS (immigration and naturalization services) needs to go to these protests with buses and round up all the illegals, drive to the Mexican boarder and drop them off. Force them to walk back across the boarders. That would stop the problem.

That idea is top notch! Grin

This is ridiculous, as a foreigner in a foreign land I expect to learn their way of doing things. I am studying the local language and don't expect them to change to suit me.

Many people in U.S. are tired of the "Hispanic" problem.    It's not that we don't want and welcome immigrants.    But we want LEGAL IMMIGRANTS    People who are glad to come here, follow our laws, learn our language, and make their contribution to our culture and while still celbrating their own here in the U.S.

I've been getting a lot of emails on this subject and they are all derogatory toward these illegals.    Some of the statistics I've read are astounding.    Actually, in many ways they get better social services than your poor or lower middle class Americans do.    And we, as taxpayers, must foot the bill.

NO, the country was not crippled.    NO, the immigrants did not stop commerce, the schools, or the economic structure of this country.   YES, many places that cater to the Hispanic population were closed that day along with others ... FOR ONE DAY!     And YES, I'm tired of having to punch the "English" button my telephone...   IT'S MY COUNTRY, MY HOME, AND I'M PROUD OF IT.    If these people do not want to conform and adjust, then THEY NEED TO GO BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM.

BTW, we have many immigrants from all over the world who have and are continuing to fit into our country and make a vital contribution to it.    They may speak their original language in their home - that's fine - but they don't insist that we learn it to communicate with them!

I am posting another authenticaed thread on here from a U.S. citizen who spent 5 years working for a US company in Mexico showing what he had to go through to live and work there.    If we would only follow their protocols here in the US, we'd all be a lot better off!

The question must be asked, Why do they come? Usually its because they want to make a better life for themselves. I know in Australia, it would hurt us, loosing our immigrants, they play a vital role in our way of life. They have added much to the way Australia is today.
It can go too far, just like anything, we have towns in Australia, where you, as you walk down the street, you flat out hearing English being spoken.
We have a shortage of doctors here at the moment, immigrants, overseas doctors, have saved many Australians lately. Again, there is a down side, you may have heard of Jayant Patel, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7991906/
As for illegal immigrants, or Asylum Seekers the subject of this post, they break the law, and should be sent back. Why? because, they take  local jobs and we have long enough un-employed queue's as it is!!
My perspective, come, if you do it right, (enter lawfully), add to this wonderful country,(bring a skill), learn our language(it is Australia, right?) try to fit in, we are not saying abandon your ways, beliefs or anything. Just try to fit in Smiley
As for illegal immigrants, we want you too, just do it right, enter legally. We know its tough where you come from, it may be un-bearable but its laws the keep this county great. Everyone has to live by them. EVERYONE!

I am glad to see that illegal immigration is a problem in other countries. Well, not glad, but it is reassuring that it is not just a US problem.

I have many friends that were not born in this country. I don't see them as anything other than friends. They are here legally. They conformed to our way of life. They speak our language.

The issue isn't that there are immigrants. The issue is they are not here legally. They do not learn our language. They fly their flags, not ours. They celebrate their holidays not ours. This is a problem.

The country is the United States of America, not the United States of Mexico. They need to accept this and learn to do things the US way, not the Mexican way. If Mexico is so great, GO HOME!!!

There are many parts of Sydney where there are certain sectors which will not integrate with the locals....there are also streets in Sydney that are fast becoming known as (a certain category of illegal entrants) only streets, the Ozzies that maybe have lived in those streets for many many years are now having stones thrown at their windows, cars burnt and girls being attacked and raped and all these awful things by illegal immigrants Sad
Inf act, I read or heard somewhere that there were many athletes from Africa (to do with the recent games here) who did not leave the country when there visiting visa expired......Who knows where it will all end, Undecided
