Well, a laptop is as good as a desk top computer, but it's a bit big to try and put in your pocket.
A top of the range PDA should be able to go wi-fi and a mobile phone (cell phone) could also do the same.

T-Mobile has revealed that it is indeed planning to offer a third incarnation of its MDA (Mobile Digital Assistant) PocketPC-based phone that will feature a QWERTY keyboard and Wi-Fi support. The CU928's spec includes Bluetooth support but no Wi-Fi, and a 640 x 480 digicam. The latter at least seems a likely MDA III feature, given the presence of a camera icon on the publicity shot. The MDA II had Bluetooth, so it seems likely its successor will too.
The CU928 measures 12.5 x 7.0 x 1.9cm. Given the visual similarity with the MDA III, the T-Mobile device will be the same size.

Hi I had both iPAQ 2210 and Evo N1020v both are used but for different purposes. So it's all depend from what kind of activity you're willing to provide on particular device. If you need to work remotely I guess that I can safely recommend you laptop, as PDA is only suitable (at least in my case) to check mails, answer urgent ones, check my sites post reply if necessary but this takes 2-3 times longer than I would do it on desktop PC or laptop so it's only suitable if you're on the road and have no space for big devices.

I don't track PDA market but I've never heard of PDAs which have USB port and I know that 2-3 years ago such devices didn't exist for sure.

it's different communication protcols and used for different purposes, WiFi is used for building mostly data networks and providing internet in cafe and other public areas(not here but in more developed countries) and GSM is cell phone network protocol used mostly to transmit voice from one mobile to another.

I think that some do, and I know for sure that there are small cameras which you can plug to PDA which come as a SD or CF card. But anyway I'm not fan of using small cameras on phones and  other devices as they do not provide as good quality as big camera at least not yet. So if you really need good camera for making photos better look for camera itself.

Sorry don't have more information on this subject, hope that Graham's post have answered the rest of your questions. Let us know if you have more.

I have a blackberry and a laptop. I travel with both because they are good for different things. I love both. It really depends on what you feel you need.

If you want access to just email and a few documents, then a PDA is fine. If you are going to be needed more, then you should go with the laptop.

Keep in mind that you will probably want a QWERTY keyboard if you are going to just get a PDA. They are much easier to type with.

I agree with Hope as I use a laptop and black berry combo... However if you have to type any amount of emails cranking them on the bberry gets a little burdensome after awhile on that tiny keypad.
