Hi
I have a web site that provides online services to members.

The web server sends out over 10000 emails every day to thousands of members who have opted in to receive email notifications and updates.  Emails are sent only those members who have willingly selected in their control panel to receive email notifications.  Each member who has opted in to receive notifications of updates to their accounts receives anywhere from 1-10 emails in a day.  I believe this is not considered as spam as we only send emails to members who have asked us to.

I have lately observed and members have been complaining that any email from my web site ends up in the Bulk Mail / Junk Mail folder in Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, Gmail and Outlook.  I am not sure why this is happening, I believe so that may be my domain has been black listed or such owing to the volume of around 10000 emails sent out every day

Can someone advice on what should I do so that this does not happen.

Any help or advice on this matter is appreciated.

Thanks

Shocked You are sending sending up to 10 emails a day??? Yikes. I say you have been pegged right. A spammer. The only way anybody would be okay with that is if each was filled with money. Undecided

Apart from content, frequency of emails is used as a measure of spam. Most newsletters and opt-in info is sent no more than once per week. Also, I read somewhere that sending email in bursts to yahoo or hotmail is flagged as spam. You have to send no more than x emails per hour to these domains. Whatever the x may be.

You will need to speak to the Abuse departments of the effected email companies. You will need to explain that you are an opt-in service. You will need to show them how the opt-in works. Once you have proven to them that you are not a spammer, they will provide to you some guidelines on how not to get back on their blacklists. Good Luck.

Heidi, you could make a business out of un-blacklisting people  Grin But it seems that you are kind of doing this anyway with your work undoing the amateur SEO submission stuff.

I did the ultimate screw up with email by writing my own script to email about 20K opt-in subscribers in one hit. But worse still I had a bug in my script that caused it to loop! This got me some temporary blacklist but I managed to worm my way out by explaining my mistake and proving people opted in, but it is not a great way to work. Because the script took so long to execute, I terminated it before it did too much damage  Tongue Now I use Aweber and trust the experts to deliver my messages   Grin

Well I have removed many domains from blacklists, both Search and eMail. It is not fun, nor is it easy to do. There are a lot of people out there who are devious as well. They sign up for your list, and if you don't give them the "double opt in" they report you as a spammer.

Is there a world record for the number of emails sent per day by one domain?

Who knows what it would be. I know that an email bomb would most likely be the winner of that contest.
