Very Interesting stuff Andy! I am just now having a sandwich before I turn in and am glad it is a raw from the cow's belly CHEDDAR CHEESE!  Ver nice picture and narration of life in Japan! I am curious why people do not keep their homes up there?

I asked around and it's because people want to have new things and lose the old stuff.  Undecided

Gee whiz, I didn't even want to eat sushi when I was there.    Sukiyaki was more my thing.    These "delicacies" are way beyond me.

Can't help wondering how they prepare and serve that stuff?

It sure is  Grin

Actually the "food" is served at a Korean style restaurant so it's not Japanese food. I stayed in Korea before and didn't like any of the food I had. The one meal that was close to tastey (octopus curry) was far too spicy/hot like a watery vindaloo even though it was called "mild" on the menu. I like hot curry but we were warned that Korean curry is very hot so that's why we ordered the mild one. I can't imagine what a hot one would be like   Roll Eyes

A lot of Japanese food is not so nice either but it's "healthy"  (apart from the nice food like Tempura) Tongue  Grin

I don't actually eat this stuff but get invited to take pictures of it. Maybe the owner thinks he'll get more customers  Huh

Apparently some Japanese like to take foreigners to restaurants serving weird food, maybe reserved for business meetings  Grin

Like Tamuril, I'll go for sukiyaki every time!    Never ate sushi there.

But got a surprise at a Chinese buffet recently.   Ate sushi and it was great!

Live and learn I always say.    But I'll pass on the tripe.

I'm not a keen fish eater, but I like strong flavoured fish like Mackeral (not sure of spelling). Raw / dried squid is suprisingly tastety though!

My family were involved in the butchery trade so I was brought up on Black pudding (mostly dried blood and fat), liver and  faggots (the food!!!) which I still think are tastety but some are maybe best avoided for health reasons. I never liked tongue, brains and some other tripe though.

Actually, I had my first taste of raw squid at that same chinese buffet, Andy, and  found it surprisingly tasty.

Of course I'm a fish lover from the get/go so I was in my element.    Don't care much for fried or breaded fish, really prefer baked, broiled or sauteed.

Actually ate very little of the traditional Chinese dishes at the buffet, ate almost all fish and veggies - of which I was very proud.
