For this purposes I use gFTP very small but pretty user friendly program which you should try. It can have saved FTP servers categorized in folder and keep all necessary data to login(very useful if you work with many FTPs).
If say truth I didn't try anything else except ftp(command line ftp client) but guess it's not what you're looking.
As for CuteFTP it could probably work under Wine although I'm not sure if it's good idea to run it like this...

I installed FireFTP into FireFox, but it's not working for some reason. When i go to tools in FireFox and click on FireFTP, the program doesn't show up and FireFox closes down.
 Embarrassed
I'll see if i can find gFTP and see if that works for me.

Just installed gFTP 2.0.18

It looks good anyway. I'll try it fully in the morning.

Yup, it works great and i'm happy with it.

The only thing i need to work out is the CHMOD. I'm used to using numbers such as 644 - 755 - 777 but instead it gives a tick box with read, write & execute. I'll get used to it though.

actually I'm more used to RWX more than to numbers so was pretty happy to find a program which use same way of dealing with files Tongue
let me try to explain this:
Each file and directory has it's own permission in Linux. It's define permissions separetely for 3 things:
u-User(owner and usually creator ot the file unless it was chown newowner file to other user);
g-Group(group to which files belong, it's also set during file creation based on the group of person who created file, but it later could be changed using chgrp newgrp file);
o-Others (wide permissions which set to everyone else who doesn't belong to group or isn't owner of the file or directory).
Permission could either be represented by number like ugo=755 or u=RWX g=RX o=RX (I've presented same permission using octal number and letters. This permissions tell that owner could read, write or execute this file, and group and other could only read and execute but not alter it.

Here is small table of octal numbers which correspond to permissions:
Quote
Read = 4
Write = 2
Execute = 1

 in order to get number of desired permission you should simply add correspongind numbers and use the sum.

Not sure if I explained it well, so if you have questions about it, please let me know.
