I have only done the article submission thang recently. It costs nothing to submit your articles and you can't beat free advertising.
I have spent over several thousand dollars in PPC advertising. I am slowly changing my mind about all of this and going at it in a different direction.

Right now I use Artemis Pro.

I would suggest you start working on link exchanges. This is very important for SEO and site traffic. Find sites that are related to your site. Request a link exchange. You will need to send a lot of requests, but in the end it will be worth the few acceptances you receive.

Certainly. As the search engines fight the battle against automated site generation tools and link exchanging schemes it is becoming a waste of time trying to exchange links on a 1:1 basis with sites.

The way to do it now is naturally link out to related web content and expect like-minded websites to link back to you. This is going back in time to how it was supposed to work and bloggers are adopting this method of inter-linking.

Forget about emailing people about link exchange schemes, it's a waste of time now and you risk getting shut down for spamming.

Webmasters will spot you linked to them in logs and will be overjoyed to see you linking to them and will likely link back as a compliment. I had this happen to me recently with a site giving me 2 links back within an article about my site. The days of the "links page" are dead and buried.

Their weightage is certainly decreased after google's bigdaddy update. They are not as effective as they used to be.

Link Exchange is just like having lots of APPLE in a Bucket. As long as those apples are fresh and clean your website will rank on top, but if there is ONE ROTTEN APPLE , it will spoil other too in the bucket.


Suppose you have a website, and you exchanged link with a company ABC.com which uses a hidden link pointing back to a non-related objectionable site which is banned on Google.

Now if you do a link exchange with ABC, your website will surely face the wrath of search engines particularly Google. So its better to be aware of this aspect before embarking upon Link Exchange Program to improve Search Engine Optimization and Ranking on Different Search Engines.

Article submission is a good excercise to increase your visibility on internet. There are thousands of websites where you can promote your articles and can get plenty of quality links

Article publishing was quite popular in 2004/05, but after 2005 there were several changes in the search ranking algorithms. Search Engines are becoming more and more aware of the search environment within their search engine ranking algorithms.

Several new techniques have been implemented like "duplicate content penalty". It is making difficult for webmasters to score top rankings by publishing thousands of articles on different websites.

If your 100 articles carry same content then it could deliver duplicate content penalty. This could eventually lower your rankings

Thats a good point daveweb. How about varying the content slightly with each submission? This is the suggestion I got from some guru of article submission.

As far as content is concerned you can make slight changes after posting around 10-20 same articles.

Meanwhile you can easily alter the TITLE. google does behave like a spoiled kids if you give him same candy 20 times 

You can easily alter your title like

"Search Engine Optimization Tips" (10-20 articles)

Tips on Search engine Optimization (20-30)

Interesting Tips on Search Engine Optimization (30-40)

Search Engine Optimization Guide (40-50)

This way you will realy save your time by avoiding tantrums of Google.

As far as blogging is concerned, it is a good idea, but google gives higher rankings to certain websites based on several factors like

"New Pages pointing to a particular website"
"Directories pointing towards a particular website"

Google surely needs some spanking

Article writing is a bit of a chore since the articles I have seen are quite detailed but I guess it's just one of the tasks that has to be done.

One of the articles I wrote for my own site has probably generated more income over time than if I had written a book so it is worth the initial pain of creating this content. Also, the levels of traffic drop quickly as your page drops down the search results so high ranking is crucial so this is where articles could notch a page up the rankings.

Now it seems like a webmasters job is more about writing content than ever before
