Seagate has announced a new 1-inch 12GB hard disk that is substantially smaller and faster than its current top of the line 8GB model. The ST1.3 series 12GB disk is 23 percent smaller, has a 50 percent greater capacity, and consumes 30 percent less power than its predecessor. The disk is designed for use in mobile phones and portable media devices. The drive is the second Seagate model to use perpendicular recording, and the first to do so in the 1-inch category.

The drive’s small size of 40×30x5 mm allows for more streamlined media devices and is suited well for clamshell and candy bar style mobile phones. As part of its G-Force Protection system Seagate will also offer an optional drop sensor which will increase shock resistance 33 percent and help the drive survive a 1.5 meter or roughly five foot fall onto concrete or ceramic surfaces when properly mounted inside a device. In addition, Seagate’s RunOn technology will keep the track heads aligned when the device is in motion.

Would you trust such a tiny creation? Maybe i am just been biased, but i tend to trust big hardware more, rather than all these ultra slim iPods and stuff... not that size matters, lol, but i prefer big  Grin
what do u think of this micro HD?

actually I always prefer mini devices if possible although costs usually scare me off them Tongue Grin
BTW SeaGate is most trusted brand for me, I've tried WDC, Fujitsu, IBM and SeaGate harddrives and best experiences I had with SeaGate ones, as they work quietly and I didn't have a single SeaGate HDD dead. Previously I had ST340810a (which worked about 2 years constantly running, from what I remember SMART shows that it run 12500 hours) and it still works without any issue, now I've upgraded it for ST380817AS and it's work even better than previous(much more silently). But before I've upgraded to 80Gb SeaGate I've decide to try WDC WD800JB-00FMA0 80Gb as it's price was very appealing, it ambient noise was a bit hotter as well. After 1404 hours of work SMART start to report "Fatal or unknown error" during checking, and soon after this I've start to got problems with corrupted data for no reason... after 3000 hours I've got few relocated sectors and after 6k hours I decide to exchange it for more expensive SeaGate 80Gb while my warranty didn't run off. And I'm very glad that did this! Smiley

It's the wave of the future, man!
My problem with small devices is that they can be easily lost. But these appear to be internal drives: "According to the official statement from Seagate, the new 1-inch drive “fits nicely into current clamshell and candy-bar style mobile handsets.”"

I'm inclined to say this is a stepforward.
