I'm a llama!

« on: February 19, 2006, 05:33:16 AM »

Hi everyone -

I am a novice web designer. I have a job that I need to complete. I have a page of images of pools. I would like to have it so each picture can pop up in a new window enlarged when you click on the original. But the same picture is popping up for the few I've tried. Please take a look at the page and let me know what I can do.

Thanks so much!

Hi JG! I see what you mean! I work with images a whole lot on my site and in my Ebay auctions. I always use a thumbnail with a link to a larger image.I love Mozilla Composer. It's a WYSIWYG what you get and you can easily change the view to see the html source-It should make things alot easier for you! Of course the basics-you must have the thumbnail plus the large image uploaded onto the internet-I'm sure you already know that ,but just thought I would say it.-You just click on the thumbnail, click insert link and enter the url for your larger picture and click save!. It's very easy to use and the main editor I prefer...HERE'S THE LINK FOR COMPOSER-Now they call it Mozilla Suite(which includes Composer-If you have any questions about using it you can email or better , post here so others can see.

By the way...those pools are dreamy! Grin Wink

I AM SURE YOU KNOW THIS ALREADY TOO,BUT, your larger images need to have a different name...I usually put tn for thumbnail  on the smaller images at the end of the name- I.E. flower,jpg- flowertn.jpg

I did name my larger images with a different name. I added "BIG" to each file name. I tried to download the Mozilla program, but it didn't finish downloading, it just stopped. I'll try again.

More advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

I think I see your problem-you do not need javascript to open a larger picture in a new window. Simple HTML will do it. Also, it looks like maybe some of your image names may have a space in them...

I used one of your pictures and uploaded to my personal server to test-

Here is the simple html for a picture linking to a large one-try this and of course just insert you own urls...

Code:
<a href="http://auctionheart.com/poolbig.JPG"><img alt=""
src="http://auctionheart.com/pool.JPG"
style="border: 0px solid ; width: 275px; height: 206px;"></a>

Also-are you on a slow internet connection? Sounds like maybe you timed out on the Mozilla download? If you are on a slow connection you need to have a downloader program to makes your downloads faster.   I am on broadband aso do not need one anymore,but I used to use "Download Express". Here is the download link for that...

I think Rosie has this pinned.
I'm not sure if you already started recoding your page or not, but I did not notice the problem you mentioned.

You can also try a DHTML window, but that's much more complicated than HTML and requires some modifications (And I think in this case, simple HTML should work fine.) Beside that, using DHTML can cause compatibility problems with older browsers.

Check it out, if you're interested:

I use Javascript for my new windows as well, but each one has to be seperately modified in order to work. It seems that something as simple as contradicting tag IDs can completely mess up a project.
