I was trying to find out what version of Simply MEPIS I was running to see if I needed to upgrade. I discussed this in a couple forums and it seemed no one knew how to find out other than to check the repository that I got it from and since I didn't keep that information I didn't know. However for those that find themselves in the same predicament here is the answer. Go into the Synaptic Package Manager and scroll down to mepis-oscenter (alphabetical order) and it will list the installed version and the latest version. BTW Simply MEPIS is great the bigest problem with it is every thing you could need seems to be there making it a little too much to start with but just keep looking at stuff and get used to new names and you will probably have a tool for it built into Simply MEPIS.

Links and accurate information provide the best answer, while garbage in provides garbage out.
