Some time have passed from this horrible happening, but I never heard anything about people who survived it and how many people actually died there. I only know that they was moved out of city and that government promise to give them money as help.
Anyone could give more info about this?

I know that many Katrina survivors moved to Texas and other nearby states, and the government has been helping with a lot of relocations. I also know that private citizens like Dr. Phil have been donating to help relieve some of the problem.

The Katrina survivors are all desperately trying to rebuild their lives. The rest of us can only help to pick up some of the pieces...

Hi, Sensovision.     Cheers and I will be in New Orleans this Tuesday.    Many people have moved out of the city permanently, but many others have returned and are trying to pick up the pieces.    In fact, they are having Mardi Gras this year; we'll see some of that.    It's much smaller than in the past, but it's an indicator that they plan to stay and grow.

A portion of the evacuees are still living in government funded hotels and apartments, but many others have moved on out into their own places in their new locations; many have found work.    I really can't take time now to say much more, but am sitting at Cheers' computer right now in Vidor, Texas, which is where HurricaneRita struck just a few months ago.    Much of the damage caused by that second massive storm is still visible; trees down, homes and other buildings damaged and still awaiting repairs.   People are resourceful and help one another at times of crisis; the true character of people is revealed during such stressful times.

I'm on vacation here now and will post more when I get back home.    At least this is a start.   I believe the hurricane posts are still available on the Playground if you want to check them out.

Actually, the post below was from ME, at Cheers' house.    We made it to N.O. alright, but didn't see any of the damaged areas.    They were off limits to tourists such as us, plus we just didn't have time.

Many people came to Mardi Gras, including both regular visitors, former residents returning and new folks like me.    It was much smaller this year, yet they had their parades, celebrations and big Fat Tuesday celebrations.    I hope to go back one day and see more of it.    I came home with lots of beads and purchased a mask.

In Vidor where Cheers lives, you can see a lot of empty lots where houses were before Hurricane Rita, many trees are still down, especially in forested areas, and there are still many blue tarps on roofs where storm damage has not been fixed yet.    The delay is often due to lack of RELIABLE contractors having time to do all the work.    From what I saw in Vidor and surrounding areas, I don't think I wanted to see the New Orleans devastation, even though it was from the floods, not the wind and rain.

Justin is fine; he contacts us occasionally.    He is also in touch with Smurfie over at the World Circle Forum; they talk on the phone often.   Smurfie is handling that for him.

If anyone is interested, there are pictures of our trip posted at Seniors Playground; they are thumbnails and I don't know if you have to join to see them.

Thanks for the info, and as for pictures, maybe you can post link to the thread with pictures so anyone interested could easily find them?

OK Denis - I split the topic and here's the url for the pictures only.    As I said they are thumbnails, but give a pretty good idea of our trip.    You can always click on them to get the larger version, if you like!
