Increase Alexa Rankings
1.) Download the Alexa toolbar and surf your own site.
2.) Have a few friends download the Alexa Toolbar and surf your site.
3.) Shift the focus of your site toward a more webmaster like theme.
4.) Participate in many webmaster forums which allow you to place your site in your signature.
5.) Write articles about webmaster topics and distribute them around the web.
6.) Optimize pages of your site for Alexa and related phrases.
7.) Buy ads on search engines to increase your traffic. Your Alexa traffic rankings will increase.
8.) Write an article with tips on how to increase your Alexa rankings.
9.) Advertise that article on the world's largest network.
10.) Join an autosurf network which exchanges Alexa credits. <--- this actually exists and they sell off some of the credits. The problem is that those are credits. They are not real visitors. They are not what you need.

Hello articleboom! I should say that actually everything till #10 is actually advertising of your site and it would be beneficial in one or another way to your site.
As for number 10 I believe that it's unfair and unethical to boost artifically your ranking, and it's actually not worth of it since Alexa ranking is just reference number, I doubt that it would bring you more sales or boost traffic on your site, of course if you not get very high(which is not likely to happen like this anyway).
So I'm strongly advicing to focus on creating better resource which would attract more people and therefore boost your Alexa, Netcraft and other rankings of course if they are impotant to you Smiley

I agree with Senso that it's wasted effort to try and boost your Alexa traffic rank since it's just a number produced via data collected from the Alexa surf bar which is mostly used by webmasters. Of course, boosting your real visitor numbers is an important task.

our own alexa ranking has been in a freefall, its gone down from 13000 to about 24000..... but personally i think its a useless rank... easily manipulated.. and only based on people who are actually using the alexa toolbar...

I am not sure why the Alexa rating matters. As it has been pointed out, it is easy to manipulate and means nothing. It shows only a very small fraction of the internet and an even smaller segmentation of users. It is mostly used by webmasters.
