Well, here's the story. I paid RegisterFly the renewal fee on 01/06/06, six days before surplusworks.com would have expired, that being on 01/12/06. The fly gave it to someone else and they will not respond to my emails.

What is even more enraging was that they gave geardock.com, which won't expire until 01/22/09 to someone else too. I also paid for that renewal on 01/06/06.

And they took barethings.com, with its renewal date of 02/03/06! They take whatever they want whenever they want and continue to send out bills. They call that theft.

I would suggest that all members drop RegisterFly as quickly as possible.

hi LtlPhysics! it's nice to see you here, but I'm sad to hear abou your experience with RegisterFly. If you're not the only person who they cheated, hopefully after some time this thread would be found by other people and would help to save money new victims of fraud company.
Hope they didn't cheat as much peope as in case with ENDORE.com or lilhost.com.

By the way have you tried to write to http://www.icann.org/ ? From what I understand they should deal with such registrars. So maybe it's worth to try, maybe you'll manage to return your domains.

Yes, I haven't been around much lately, but I never forgot that you were here and I wanted to broadcast the news.

Also, when I said that RegisterFly "gave" the names to a third party, what I should have said was "sold" them. One name ended up as a bakery shop in Canada and another's adminstrator is linked to Apple Computers.

I do have copies of the names I registered with RegisterFly, but it will be hard to determine which ones I dropped and which were stolen. One name went to Sedo and is for sale there. Another name, spookers.com, appears to have been stolen too. I'll probably never know the extent of the larceny. Like I said, get out of there as soon as possible.

Here's what a whois search shows on these domains:

SURPLUSWORKS.COM
ICANN Registrar:    ENOM, INC.
Created:    2002-01-12
Expires:    2007-01-12
Status:    REGISTRAR-LOCK
Registration Service Provider: Registerfly.com

GEARDOCK.COM
ICANN Registrar:    ONLINENIC, INC.
Created:    2005-10-17
Expires:    2006-10-17
Status:    ACTIVE
Registration Service Provider: Friends Marketing

BARETHINGS.COM
ICANN Registrar:    INTERCOSMOS MEDIA GROUP, INC. D/B/A DIRECTNIC.COM
Created:    25-apr-2005
Expires:    25-apr-2006
Status:    ACTIVE
Registration Service Provider: Not Listed

My suggestion to you is that you contact the "ICANN Registrar" listed above for each domain name.  It's difficult to figure out what exactly is going on here b/c some of the dates you gave us do not match up to the dates listed in whois.  There are three separate ICANN registrants listed so you would need to file 3 separate claims with each one.  Show them documentation [receipts, email correspondence, etc] and attempt to reclaim your domains back.  Good luck and let us know if anything comes of it.

I just want to say that I have used registerfly since I started having a website and have had no problems and found their customer service and instant online help exceptional.  I have no idea about the problem that the original poster has with them, but just wanted to say this. Thanks for listening Smiley

Rosie, I'm not sure what to think yet but I suggest you to be careful with this company, as a proof, here is review I've found:

I did a Google search on both of those listed domains and they are both listed as untaken and for sale (if you use the find the sites that contain the term button). That's confusing...

I had an email from bulkregister.com, here is a snippet:

Quote
As required by ICANN, this message is an annual reminder to help you keep the contact data associated with your domain registration up-to-date.

It is vital that all data remain current. Important notifications are sent via this information and inaccurate data could result in cancellation of your valuable domain name registration.

First off, is this company legitimate and not a scam?

Secondly, maybe you can loose your domains by either doing or not doing what they suggest  Huh

p.s. I used to go for the very cheapest hosts before and got burnt, so it pays to go with companies that dare not risk their reputation if they try and cheat you for a few bucks. You can still get cheap domains and hosting but some unethical people must be keen to capitalize on the big differential between cost of registering a domain name and valuation in the market for cool names at your expense.

Here's a tip: If you have a valuable domain name and an active site, you can register a trade mark which can stop other people using the name in the way that Microsoft shut down sites with similar names.

Thank you for all of your responses.

I have all of the emails and have always renewed these names before they would have expired.

This first one is surplus works, which I registered on January 12, 2002. I paid for another year on January 6, 2006, but Fly never sent me a confirmation. I sent a couple of emails to them asking for confirmation, but it took them awhile to say they could not renew it. I have all of my emails and my personal information hasn't changed. I haven't violated any tos.

Domain Name    Registered    Expires    Auto
Renew   Whois
Protected
   surplusworks.com   2002-01-12   2006-01-12
     Previous   |   Next

RegisterFly has been double dipping on that name for quite some time.

I registered geardock on January 22, 2001.

Domain Name    Registered    Expires    Auto
Renew   Whois
Protected
   geardock.com   2001-01-22   2006-01-22

And I registered barethings on February 3, 2002.

Domain Name    Registered    Expires    Auto
Renew   Whois
Protected
   barethings.com   2002-02-03   2006-02-03

The information you looked up contains the dates the names were taken from me. They would naturally not match.

And to this day RegisterFly is still trying to bill me for names that have been stolen and one that I transferred to Go Daddy. Go Daddy, at least, has a help desk that won't leave you hanging on the phone until it disconnects.

Now, these names are no big deal. But billing me for stolen (and two non-existent ) names is theft.

As a customer of registerfly, I am directly concerned with the problems discussed in this thread. I just got off the phone with registerfly. I feel they really should address these accusations.  The phone man was not able to address the issue, but asked me to email the CEO, which I did. Hopefully someone from registerfly will come into the forum and address these accusations

I read this as the date that you first owned that domain which was a year and a half before you transferred it? Anyone else read it this way before they would think the other?

There you have it, my name, email address, home address, phone number, everything you would need to contact me. But I did intercept funturnon before I was deleted as the administrative contact.

I called Go Daddy and completed the necessary emails and codes. The only way to halt the transfer, if I have read the relevant tos material, is if the registrar objects. That registrar, of course, is RegFly.

Funturnon.com is not up for renewal until 05/05/2006.

funturnon.com   2005-05-15   2006-05-15

I only have 30 domains with Fly and new dates stick out. All of the names that have been stolen have new renewal dates, meaning new creation dates, quite different from the dates shown on my Fly's list, a bit of a slip on their part. The name from 2000 is my name and I know I kept my name with Gandi until 09/2002. Go figure.

RegisterFly's a fraud outfit, any way you cut it. Google/Yahoo RegisterFly Fraud and checkout what bubbles to the surface.

You must understand that I haven't fabricated any of this. You might want to check up on a few of your own names with the Fly.
