I suspect that I am not alone in getting pleasure from buying electronic gadgets. What's your favourite gadget?

I recently purchased a widescreen laptop with lots of connectivity like wireless LAN, card reader, FireWire, USB ports etc. I can use it for all my multimedia and computing needs. Rather than being an impulse buy, I actually see it as a need  Grin Since I'm moving to Japan, I have copied all my music collection to the hard disk, I can listen to internet radio, watch DVDs and do all my computing from this gadget that I can carry in a shoulder bag.

My other favourite gadget is my DV camcorder which can be used for filming, photos and as a webcam. However, I fancy buying a digital SLR camera instead since I only seem to use the photo feature these days. I recently used it to film my moms old cine films to transfer them to video tape.

Another gadget was a Palm handheld thing that I bought when I was bored  Tongue I never really had much use for it and had an idea to write software for it but didn't really have the time. I just did a "hello world screen".

I wouldn't call such serious buy as a gadget, for me it's tool rather tool for work not a gadget, but if assume that such devices are gadgets. I had one it's Pocket PC HP 2210, currently I'm using it mostly to connect t to browse internet when I'm not at home or when I'm too lazy to sit in the front of my monitor Smiley

BTW here is the list of gadgets I've bought in year 2005: USB Ionizer, small USB SD card reader, and on my birthday I've got USB hub(which change colors very nicely). If I got some spare money and find some should with cheap delivery to Ukraine I'll probably buy one of these plant key rings(PS I had small collection of keyring already which I don't put on my keys, so maybe I'll start to collect keyring one day Smiley ).

can't call dSLR a gadget too, but wish be able to get it one day as well Smiley mostly to get higher quality of my shots and be able to take shots which I couldn't make with my current camera. BTW if I ever buy dSLR I'll probably become interested in various gadgets for it like filters and so on.

I get your point about the definition of gadgets. All the items I mentioned are expensive things, but in the Western world they are considered gadgets if you see the magazines in the newsagents.

put adsense on weblamp and cost wouldn't be an issue  Wink

I tend to pay the minimum I can get away with. My laptop was ~$US1,000 equivalent which is a budget price in my home land.

Bringing the cost level down ... my latest gadget is a wireless optical mouse. Very nice, no cable to the mouse and claimed amazing battery life.

Ever since using an optical mouse and never having to clean the wheels, there is no going back. Now I got rid of the annoying cable  Smiley

ok, I should admit that I forgot to mention similar kind of gadget Wink This year I've got myself for $20 wireless keyboard with wireless mouse(ball one).
It's pretty handy when you wish to change your position and put keyboard on your knees, I also using it when watch recorded program from my sofa to rewind advertisement blocks Grin
BTW working with mouse without cable is really good thing, the only thing you should care of is spare batteries or accumulators as they tend to discharge in the moment when you least expect this. My accumulators serve me about 1.5 in keyboard and month or less in the mouse. I wonder how optical mouse is performing can you tell how frequently you replace batteries in it?

I also wonder to hear about others gadgets Smiley

My favorite gadget has to be the ipaq my wife bought me. Thats one of those handheld "not quite a computer" things.  It has wireless internet, a built in digital camera, address book, etc.. But the thing I like most about it, is I can scribble notes on the screen and save them. Just like it was an erasable notebook. I've always had a bad habit of writing on...well, anything when I get a phone call. If i don't have a blank sheet of paper, I write on a folder, the back of a work ticket, or even my hand  Grin So this comes in handy.  Wink
You can even use the ipaq for a remote control for the tv or dvd. But I haven't messed with that yet.

I also use my iPAQ for this purposes but not as much as I've used it before. I should admit that it has very has very good recognition system, it convert my writings almost perfectly! Grin

I guess that a portable internet-enabled computer that you can integrate with via a simple ear phone/mic and eye viewer would be a killer product?

I had a Sony Clie palm hand held computer, but didn't use it enough, so i've just sold it on Ebay. I tend to use my mobile phone much more than i used the palm device, so thought i might as well sell it. BTW i've just upgraded my mobile to one with TV on it and the TV works great. It's just like watching a normal TV set, but is only a few inches big. It's hard to read any writing on the TV though such as football scores and things like that.

I heard about those. Does it work through the antenna for the tv signal? I would think that unless theres a tv station close by, it wouldn't work very well.
