recetly I've ordered book(for my girl) about howto make various things with your own hands, there are some nice candle examples. But the problem is that it's not told how to make gel for candles, it's said that you can easily buy it in any shop(book was translated from English, and was written in US) but here we have no such shops, we don't have even wax sold here and of course not special gel or other things.
Although we had here dry gelatin sold for food purposes, maybe it could be used somehow in order to get mixture for candle gel?
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated!

All of the candle kits I've purchased always had the gel mixtures right in the kits with them. The gel candles are made with mineral oil and resin, but I'm not sure if you can pick up resin at your local supermarkets or not.

When I was younger we used to make "crayon candles" and we would melt a bunch of crayons into wax, but that takes a lot of crayons. Tongue

I asked my brother about this and he thinks you might be able to use it. He likes to experiment with these things, any way. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try (But I'm not sure, maybe it's not safe...)

Thanks for reply, Rachel! when I was young and we have blackouts several times a week I've also made wax candles from the leftovers of other candles Smiley

I'm going to pick some gelatin next time I'll be at shop, guess it's pretty safe, at least I don't know that gelatin to be explosive. And we'll try to make few mixutres(with water and one probably with sun oil) with it to try if any could replace gel in candles.

Maybe you can get Paraffin (paraffin wax)?
But I guess those candle wouldn't be transparent.
I found a page where they discribe how to make candles yourself:
http://www.kerzenkiste.de/kerzenmacherinfo-englisch/
they also have a shop where you can buy the candle gel:
http://www.kerzenkiste.de/kerzenkisteenglisch/start.htm

I also found some text there maybe it helps a little:
www.kerzenkiste.de –Gel waxes are made of medical petroleum. This is the same ingredient which is found in products like baby creams. The colours/dyes do not contain any toxins which must be listed on the label. Nevertheless, care should be taken around children! ("Let's just have a sip while Mum's not looking!")

Thank you for replies, Jeannine and Sue!
both sites don't seems to send items here but they give clue of what this gel could be made of at least Smiley Thanks for providing this info!

Thank you, Sue! I think that we'll try all materials available here first and if everything failed and we don't find gel locally, I'll ask you for a favour, don't wish to bother you without need Smiley
