This article http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/hurricanes_of_2005_were_filled_with_mysterious_lightning_9701 got me to wondering whether you see signs of global warming where you live.

Here in Indiana, the tempeture average should be the low 30's (thats about 1 celsius) but for the past 2 weeks, its been in the mid 40's or higher (7 celsius)

any differences in your weather that past few years?

unfortunately yes :(with each year it become more and more obvious...
as a proof here's the thread from year 2004:  http://forum.weblamp.net/index.php?topic=123.msg12100#msg12100
as you can see I've already start to worry about signs of global warming in my area and now it gets only worse. We don't have normal snow for quite a while and summer isn't so hot as it was before.
Other day I've read some report that big impact to weather change was caused by burning oil wells in Iraq, and it was that last factor which make difference in weather so obvious.

I am not convinced that the changes we see are from something caused by man or if they are really simply natural variations that are being attributed to things man is doing. I really think it is far too egotistical of man to think he is so powerful that he can unconsciously alter the world globally against the concerns of nature. I think that if man messes things up nature will make it's own changes and that such changes will be less than catastrophic for the world but may well be harmful to man.

Well I wouldn't think that something that is killing birds could really be said to be aimed at what man is doing but all things are possible I guess.  Grin Roll Eyes

not sure if switching to nuclear power would make things better, I believe that in the long run next generation would have to deal with all the wastes left after us...
BTW have I understand article correctly? is there no nuclear power plants in Ozz? (just asking because I've seen some old map from xUSSR times where was few reactors placed on the map in Australia.)

In Europe it is getting hotter. Winters are getting mild and places like southern Spain where we used to go on holiday are too hot in the daytime in Summer to go outside. At least, this is what I found.

even if they find a way to deal with the waste, I'm not sure i would like a nuclear power plant close to me.

Weather in US is really strange this year.    Constant rain and flooding on West Coast;
very serious drought and temps 25-30d. higher than normal in Central US; major hurricanes destroying property; wildfires burning grasslands and homes/business.

Either Mother Nature has her knickers in a twist or something is happening.

One thing that worries me is the melting of the ice packs both North and South.   Oceans rising; animal habitats disappearing; migratory patterns changing.   All indicative of serious problems.

Well, folks, I can bury my head in the sand and say I'm old, have lived a good life, and just won't be concerned about it.    Of course, there's the matter of the grandkids and great grands!

Oh, forgot to mention that we have nuclear power plant in Glen Rose Texas, not that many miles from us.    To date no serious problems, but one never knows.

I am not sure if they still do it, but miners used to take a caged bird into the mine to be a barometer of the air quality. If the bird died they knew to get out.

Anything that makes a bird or fish or...die has a direct connect to life of man.

I wonder how high radioactivity level you have there if you had biggest uranium mines on the planet, and does your government subscribe some drugs in order to avoid overexposing for radiation?
