Same situation is here in Oz Andy. The "work till you drop" ethos is a part of the Howard Liberal governments sganda and has been for years.
Furthermore, they are doing all they can to get rid of the unions and have everybody negotiate their own contract with the employer.
They seem to want an end to such work benefits as paid leave, sick pay and penalty rates. Of course this would lower the wages for most, and make it even harder for folk to save for retirement.
The thinking seems to be that if they could get the wages down then we could more easily compete with such productive countries as China and South African states.

Yes Andy, they are the cold hard facts for this country.........Even to the point of maybe negotiating with your employer for a lunch break Shocked    There is also a criteria here now, you have to have a certificate for EVERYTHING....including a "lollipop" man (woman) Roll Eyes

I believe we are on the way back to the type of work-force days of when youngsters were sent up chimneys' and kids were sent down the mines..... Sad

I know someone who works for Security and in the old days when they cut their teeth as a rookie, at Sydney International Airport  he was paying 'super' from his wages.   Do you know that 'super' did not ever reach any superannuation fund Shocked
