Hi,

Does anyone know anything about toy panda's ?
My wife has had a panda for years (about 40 years and the panda could be older) and everything was ok until the dog took a bite out of it. Notice the big hole in it's stomach.

Here's the pictures of the panda.

Could this panda be mended ?
Any idea where i could look for help with this toy panda ?
BTW it should have straw inside it.

Hi Graham, I understand how bad surprise it could be for your wife if she had this toy for years...
I've adviced with Sveta about how to repair such toy and she advice to do following steps:
1. take a panda to the shop and buy material which has color and consistence as close as possible to the part which was eaten by dog.
2. if you wouldn't be able to get material with the same color, you can try to cut part of the material (one you'll buy at shop) and try to paint it with hair paint(but previously it's good idea to mix it with something like shampoo, this is in order to get color variations closer to original fur of original panda).
3. After you've got piece of fur of the necessary size you should mend it to the toy and leave small hole in some place where you'll put some small bag and put there straw (not sure if inside bag is necessary but guess it wouldn't harm) through the hole, after you'll fill toy with necessary amount just mend the hole.

Not sure if it was any help, but guess that if you repair it toy yourself, your wife would be happy with it.

Hello Graham,
awfully sorry to hear about your panda......Do you now have a black and white dog?Huh? Sorry about the joke, simply trying to make light of an awful event Undecided

I know the filling would have to be straw.....and these are such absolute treasures and hard also to find these days.

I would think that if your wife can do exactly as Denis' lady Sveta has suggested, you will have one beautifully fixed toy Panda.......Hopefully your wife can make that happen... Cheesy

Otherswise, maybe this would help....I hope something good for your family and your special Panda is in the near future.

Good Luck....please keep us posted..... Grin

Thanks for the advice and the website. I'll show my wife this and hope we can do something about it. You'd think it would be a black and white Panda, but the colour is very dark brown and white. Anyway i'll see what she says. I'm sure just having it mended would be fine without trying to make it look exactly the same as it was before.

Remember that a damaged Panda means it was loved and not just left on the shelf. In this case even the dog loved little Panda.  Smiley

When I was a small boy I fell down the stairs with my Panda and it tragically lost an eye. My mom still keeps the panda so if your panda is laid to rest, an eye donation could be some small way to reduce the grieving you may be suffering  Cry However, my panda was pretty big so probably saved me getting wrecked as I tumbled down the stairs, or maybe it was Pandas fault  Angry

Andy,
if you had of have trees in your house (and every house whould have some, that Panda's live in anyway- or bamboo) your Panda could probably have stopped you from falling out of a tree, but seeing as it was just stairs, probably with a banister, for all you know, he could have given you a push Tongue  simply trying to tell you to get some trees in the place..... Plus, I think your Panda was really a Jolly Roger pirate...a friend of Long John Silver,(one leg) and they were matelots on the high seas before they became toys.... Grin Shocked Grin Grin
