Artex is used extensively in UK homes as a ceiling finish. It looks great until things go terribly wrong!

Like my loo extractor pump stopped working but the flush of the loo didn't respect this fact  Shocked

Hence a chunck of the ceiling was destroyed. No problem thanks to artex repair gunge. Just brush it on and texture it. Oops, the texture roller gave a finish nothing like what I imagined, more like a hairy gorilla finish!

Bring out the power tools ... Much sanding and filling later I got a room covered in white dust.

Andy I have no idea what you are talking about. It seems that something broke and messed up your ceiling. When you tried to fix it that got messed up also, causing you to try another fix which caused your room to be covered in dust. What is a loo extractor pump and the flush of the loo extractor pump?

Sorry about the mess.

sounds like a nightmare andy
artexing is a messy job, what sort of pattern was you after?
shells arent too bad just make sure you pva the ceiling before hand otherwise the artex dries too fast
a easy way to texture it is to get a old tea towel and put it in a plastic bag and tie it to the end of a roller pole extention and just dab it on the ceiling

but the square boards with rubber tassle type things are definately the easiest
just finish it off with a clean damp 1 or 2 inch brush around the edges
the main thing is getting the mix right

o and watch ya eyes  Grin it dont half sting

This is an electrical pump that is used instead of a vertical drain pipe in an extension to a building. After you flush the toilet, if the pump doesn't activate, you get my problem  Sad

The pattern is a ripply effect, probably done with a mould. I have now bodged it to my best abilities so now it is fixed  Tongue I just need some distractors to keep peoples eyes off the ceiling  Grin
