I have been going over my code trying eveything...I don't know how to fix a problem...I have been running my forum with NO problems whatsoever for a couple years...

Yesterday I ordered a second IP from my cable company so I can hook up a second computer for a backup to the main auction site...

I think this may be the source of the problem ,but not sure how to fix...

I cannot login to my forum...I don't think anyone can...It goes through the processof logging in and says thank you for logging in , then says welcome guest -login... Huh Huh Huh ???It's written in perl.

Anyone have any ideas??

You can only have one IP address per domain name. The domain name is resolved to an IP address by name servers before the site is accessed.

Maybe this is the problem?

The backup site on the new IP address would need to be on another domain name or possibly a sub-domain. Backup servers would normally sit behind the same router I believe in the case of a small company. Then the admin would route the traffic to the appropriate networked server using port forwarding which is set up via an admin panel for the router.

IP addresses are nodes on the internet and domain names are just names that are associated with ip addresses.

Hope this helps, Andy

Andy, the second ip thing is kind of new to me...

I just want to hook up a second computer and put my auction site on there...
I was going to read some about networking which I have not done yet...

Anyway someone told me I need to have my cable company assign a dchp(or something like that) second ip for the second computer so I did that yesterday...

I feel a little lost about this at the moment...

I just want to plug the second computer into my hub and have my site on there to protect from loss once my auction biz opens...

I DO have an unused second domaine name ...do I need that tho? Am I making any sense lol! Huh Grin

Well, I solved the problem of not being able to log into my forum! I killed it lol!  Grin ;DActually whatever was wrong, it gave me just the necessary push to create a forum inside the auction site that is totally integrated with the auction site!So now really there is just the hooking up the second pc issues...at least I hope that's all! Roll Eyes Huh Grin
