We often here the partronizing phrase "even a child could do it", well here is an example of the graphic design capability of a 16 year old: http://www.ra.sys-techs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64 It may look like a photo but it's a graphic model with 6163 polygons in a wire mesh that's rendered (skinned) with various graphic textures for a game based on Battlefield 2. The model will be flying around in virtual 3D space when the game mod is complete.

And I am still struggling in 2D space  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the nice comments. I was trying to get him to make a website to showcase the work but not much progress yet on this.

It's scary isn't it how quickly these youngsters learn these skills. One reason I encourage him and buy the hardware/software is because i always remember being fascinated by one of the early computers at the Birmingham uk science museum when i vistited as a child. I wanted to know how it worked (like exactly how it worked!) and when visiting the museum shop they had on sale the manuals for this computer. I desperately wanted it but the idiot shop assistant persuaded my parents that a kid my age had no hope of understanding it and instead sold us some useless introductory guide to computers! I am talking 30+ years ago. I never forget this bad experience.

I think it's a plain backgound since it's for use in a game where the background will be generated under the image.

Generally speaking, 3d modelers (For games especially) don't add backgrounds because they want people to focus on the quality and details in the model and not be distracted by a background... Unless it's meant to be an artistic image, in which case the background would most likely also be developed in 3d.

Yes, the mega-time is available at the moment since he flunked out of school and we are in the process of going abroad.

I was trying to persuade him to start a website to build an online asset. It's kind of taking shape with just a few error 404's: http://www.darkcoder.co.uk/ The forum is probably the main part that is working.
