Hi,

is it easier to get high ranking in MSN than Google? I always seem to focus on Google, but my latest web designs seem to rank highest on MSN  Huh Urgentclick.com is #2 for "invisible hits counter", j-eye.co.uk gets #4 for "japanese uk forum" and fills the page in Japanese text at #2, reading free ads is #1, awe is #3 for wokingham web design and so on... Maybe I should forget about trying to compete on Google? Maybe I just answered my own question  Grin

Would it help if I posted a "Best viewed in IE7" link on my site !! LOL - I would never do that! Unless of course it made a big difference to income  Tongue

Wow Andy I was just going to post about MSN. I have been checking about my search engine placement etc...and really noticed the big difference in MSN. They are definitely on the move! They have pages I just created a couple days ago and very current info and more of it than Yahoo and Google!!!! Go MSN! Wink

Congrats Andy. MSN was never hard to get rankings in before. At least not for me. I have not been doing a lot of SEO recently, so I don't know how hard it is now. I am happy to hear you have found the secret to success.

MSN is definitely pleasing me. Google's sandbox seems to have a lot of my websites on waiting mode, while msn is incredibly and efficiently indexing and ranking my pages in no time.  Cheesy

I get Google and MSN bots checking my sites everyday. If they visit my site with a bot, they should list it/update it  very soon otherwise I may as well ban the bot for wasting my bandwidth.

Yep definitely easier in msn.  I'm a newbie and within 3 days of indexing my site, it moved from #40 on MSN to #2 for my top keyword. and I'm around 10-20 on various other keywords.  Google still has my site in the sandbox though and yahoo has yet to index.

If you ban the bot then your site won't be listed at all.

Baning a robot will mean that they can't go to your site and get your most updated content. If they can't do this then they will ban your site most probably.

Yes my site is relatively new and well im not ranking very well in google or yahoo however MSN seems to love me;)

One bad thing though, less then 1% of traffic comes from MSN, so why bother?

where did you get this information? As if some statistic exist maybe you can share a link as I'd like to see these studies.
Actually MSN could be good source of traffic on particular subjects, I believe that some people still use it as default search engine so depending from the topic of your site it could drive you good amount of visitors.

If you can get in the top 10 list at MSN for popular searches you should be very happy.

It's free targeted traffic. Utopia!

p.s. I hardly ever check my keyword positioning in the search engines. I just keep building with SEO in mind. I haven't got time to rework a page that didn't rank well. It may rank well tomorrow or next week, I don't know.

well reworking pages is not everything there is to SEO, building inbound links with correct anchor text is esecial also. Im ranking well in MSN for my targeted keyword, however im getting very little trafic from MSN. Maybe its better for some searches then others

It will be. I don't know of any MSN - specific keyword popularity list/tool though. I would anticipate that >99% of users would be supporters of MS rather than say the Linux community  Wink
