I just found a new to me extension that for anyone using Firefox and making websites or trying to learn about website source code is a must have. The extension is HTML VALIDATOR (based on Tidy) from......
http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/
This extension shows it's self as a small icon located in your status bar and is different depending on the validation of the web page you are focused on. If the page is valid you see green circle with a white check mark. If the page has a warning on it then you see a golden triangle with a black exclamation mark (!) in it. It also can show a red circle with a white X in it for when there errors on the page. Now that is OK but not really worth much. The really great thing about it is the information you get when you click on it and it automatically opens the source code for the page. When you use W3C to validate your page and it fails you are told what line the failure is on and given some idea of where it is but this is usually incorrect. This is not the case with this great extension. It not only gives you a warning but it also highlights the exact portion of the problem in your source code. And now for the best part in my opinion. HTML VALIDATOR (based on Tidy) actually gives an explanation that is much easier to understand of the problem not just some obscure rule page you need read and the information changes to suit the problem you click on making it a very good aid in understanding the code. I have heard people say they don't like it because it gives warnings even on validated pages and that the reason for this is often because the page has the & symbol all alone instead of having it as & . This will pass W3C validation but is still shown as a warning with the HTML VALIDATOR (based on Tidy) extension. I don't think this is a problem but an aid to understanding for me.

This is a GREAT extension. This is much easier than checking each page by hand. I even found a few small errors on my site and fixed them today. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hmm?

I'm just a bit concerned about the bandwidth effect of this sort of tool.

Web browsers are mean't to be used for displaying pages as you surf.

Is there any negative impact on Firefox if it is used a webmaster tool?

And why are sites like w3.org so happy for us all to keep linking back to them on every page we visit and consuming their bandwidth?

It all has to be paid for somehow.
