I have just run into something that I can't figure out. I have a gif image that when you highlight it in IE the image changes(not in Firefox). Part of the image becomes transparent leaving an exposed but similar image. Can anyone explain to me how this can be done? I would post the image but it could be considered too erotic and so I wont. My interest is that the process may be used to cause an image to display "Don't copy me" when highlighted.

I guess it uses JavaScript which isn't FireFox compatible. I saw similar images in the past... but guess it's not good solution for protecting your images from downloading. BTW I think that saw similar script on hotscripts.com in the past...

I'm sure it's not done with a java-script or anything like that because my wife found it and emailed it to me and I looked at it with several gif animation programs and it always looked just like a picture also I opened it in PSP 8.0 and saved it as a different file name and it still worked. I tried converting it and the result was just a very small amount of change. In other words the transparency was reduced quite a lot.

Don, forgot to answer you yesterday, so I've decide to do it now. I've check your file on the Internet Explorer installed on my Linux box, and nothing special happend, I could assume that this was because IE which run through Wine is missing something or (returning to my first version) that this image was dissolved using some kind of Javascript. Tomorrow I'll check it on my girl's PC running XP just to be sure and let you know about result.

I think it has something to do with the colors used to highlight the image, but let me know what you find out.

wow, Don, you were right it's not javascript. Today we've examined this image with my girl and was very impressed and fascinated by how it's changing Grin Anyway we've quickly got idea what it was, it's just a kind of optical illusion... I'll try to make and post some image today or tomorrow and if someone would be interested I can post some HOWTO to achieve this kind of effects. By the way I already thinking of placing copyrights on my photos this way Wink
Thanks for telling about this picture!

Now you know why I was so interested in the picture it seems to have some potential. I got to thinking it had to do with the color IE uses to highlight the image. If you figure out how it's done and can reproduce it I would be very interested.

ok here is quick example made on my eye  Tongue Grin
as was said before just try to select it in IE and you should see some special FX. maybe it's not the best way to use such effect but you are free to experiment.
I'll try to post HOWTO tomorrow, sorry for delays as I'm trying to catch up with many things in the same time.

I had tried to think of different ways to examine it but for some reason never enlarged it.
