I was looking at my web stats and noticed a large number of error 404 page hits (when a non-existent page is accessed). Most of these hits, I assume are robots but some may be people incorrectly typing in a url.

Well, I thought, why display "error 404"? Why not display a marketing page!

A non-existent page on my site is: Click here to see how this technique works.

Thanks, I can't stop myself posting  Grin

I just noticed that my example link is not working since I switched web hosts and forgot to set up my error 404 page!

If you don't have the facility to create a custom error 404 page from your control panel. I think you can do it by uploading an appropriate .htaccess file to your base directory (if you have a linux-based host).

Using your .htaccess file, you can customize the full range of error pages - point to the key info on your site (or even off-site to another of your sites). List links, search function, contact info...
