The .ws domain name extension used to be reserved for Western Samoa but lately, Global Domains International have been heavily marketing the domain name extension .ws as meaning "Web Site".

This means that this domain name extension is rapidly growing in recognition but the registered domain names are still a small number so it's still relatively easy to grab a short, meaningfull domain name.

For example I grabbed: http://www.ebooksearch.ws/ which is an amazingly short and memorable domain name considering it was only registered earlier this year.

It remains to be seen if the .ws domain name industry will take off. But we wait and see.

Hi,
I just wanted to say it'll take much time before .ws domains reach the popularity of .coms, so it's not necessarily a good idea to invest in domains like that.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's interesting to note that you got some error like it wasn't registered. Sure, .com is preferred and most of the others like .info, .biz and so on will never be very popular.

re: $20 in pocket, can't you do something about it with adwords etc? Check out monetization thread  Grin

For this very reason I think that registering .ws now would be a wise decision. Get in on the action before everybody else does! Grin

No one knows but it has to be said that it can be so frustrating to have a good idea for a website and find some cyber-squatter has grabbed your domain name. One plus factor behind the .ws domain names is that Global Domains International are working very hard to promote the uptake of these domain names unlike the .tv, .info, .biz etc.

Personally, I'm very glad I registered "urgentclick.com" early on in the internet boom and i'm sure it will help me out in old age!

Now we are seeing domains like "pokerparty.com" edge towards the billion dollar mark.

I just did a quick click and http://www.ebooksearch.ws/ loaded straight away  Huh

I really don't know how .ws will pan out but it seems like stocks that you wished you bought at the low price.

The company behind .ws are pushing really hard to make it a success so I may as well stick with it.
