Netcraft Updates Anti-Phishing IE Toolbar

http://www.desktoppipeline.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleId=162100654

U.K.-based Web metrics firm Netcraft on Monday updated its anti-phishing toolbar for Internet Explorer that adds a graphical risk rating of new sites and eases enterprise deployment.
The Netcraft Toolbar, which debuted December 2004, is a free-of-charge plug-in to Microsoft's IE browser that uses Netcraft's database to show several attributes of any visited site, including the doman's country location, its longevity, and its popularity.

New to the toolbar is Risk Rating, a graphical indicator that appears for all new sites. The rating, said Netcraft, is generated by comparing the new site against characteristics of known phishing sites.

"The ratings will evolve and adjust automatically as phishers change their behavior," promised Netcraft in a statement. "Along with pre-emptive blocking of cross-site scripting, [the rating] is particularly helpful to people who receive a phishing mail early on, before it has been reported by someone else in the community and blocked."

The toolbar can now also be run by Windows users without Administrator privileges, letting an IT staff roll out the bar across the enterprise without bumping up users' rights.

The IE toolbar can be downloaded from the MNetcraft site. Although Netcraft said in December that it was working on a toolbar suitable for Mozilla's Firefox, one has yet to appear.

Anyone here using this tool Bar? I never heard of it till today.

Thanks for sharing this news, Tommy! I've check this bar myself on FireFox but didn't find much of use for it...  failed to find site with different risk rating, I've check my site and two sites from hosting feedback board, which are claimed by a lot of people to cheat their customers, here they are lilhost.com and endore.com and they showed same risk level as our site...
Anyway I didn't uninstall it just to check out "Rank:" of sites, seems like WKey has 900441 place on the list of most visited sites  Grin

yesterday I was seen the proof that Netcraft toolbar really works, I've got one e-mail about so called contest for which I was selected by eBay, mail look pretty well comparing to fake ones I've got before. Just out of curiousity I decide to see what this site is look like and how they try to get people personal details in order to rob them later.  But once I try to enter Netcraft give me a message that I'm trying to enter physhing site and so on... So maybe installing it for people who are not sure about how their information could be steal via the web is a good idea.
