I've recently got DVD-RW ND-3520A as a payment for job I've did, it's brand new, it burn and read DVDs but can't see any CD-Rs or CD-RW or even usuall CDs. I couldn't return it and since my usual burnet is almost dead now I'm seriously thinking about selling NEC DVD for half price or less and buying new one but I still not sure what model to choose instead. Does anyone experience similar problem as it looks really strange to me, I would rather believe that DVDs would stop reading first and only later CDs but I've got opposite situation.
Also if you're using some DVD, I would appreciate if you tell it's model and what good or bad things you can say about it.

I bought an NEC dvd +/- recorder months ago and it was OK with CD's it was also OK with DVD's but i couldn't get it to work with reusable disks.

Anyway i was doing a copy of something and my wife knocked my computer with her leg. The NEC dvd recorder never worked again. I've still got it in my computer case, but i've unplugged it.

I now use a Lite-On DVD recorder.

Oh, sorry for replying twice, but i've just thought.
 Shocked
When my NEC dvd recorder broke, i tried to fix it by upgrading the firmware. It might be an idea for you to look for a firmware upgrade. I've still got the NECND13_108 firmware flash utility here on my computer.

I haven't had a chance to install my new DVD writer yet (Memorex brand), but I will let you guys know if it works well or if I have any problems. One of the main reasons I need a DVD writer is to store large files (Some of my photoshop files are so large not even ONE can fit on a single CD!)

Thanks for reply, folks! seems that NECs aren't good in resistance to shakes... as I suspect that my drive was hit during transportation, thanks for firmware suggestion although I've already tried this way Undecided
BTW my friend using Lite-On DVD and pretty happy with it, maybe this brand would work better for me. what model are you using?

I can't remember the model version of Lite-On DVD that i've got and it doesn't say on the front panel. Anyway looking in device manager it says : LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-851S
 Wink
You might find faster DVD players now though because when i bought the NEC it was one of the fastest (4X DVD copy speed) but the Lite-On was bought only a few month later and was double the speed. I think it does CD's at 54X speed and DVD's at 8X speed.
