This past weekend my boyfriend and I headed out to Colonial Williamsburg. We spent most of Saturday there and then left early Sunday morning. It was a short but extremely relaxing vacation.

Since I know that Denis loves to see pictures from all over the world, I brought my camera with me. I didn't take a lot of pictures because I was too busy enjoying myself. I did manage to take a few though. Feel free to take a look at the following link and enjoy my mini-vacation.

I have a decent camera. I am wanting to upgrade to something better, but that costs money.

Those images were not touched up at all. The only thing I did was run them through the Photoshop automated thumbnail process.

Heidi, it's a beautiful place, seems like it's live in several centuries ago Smiley Thanks for sharing them!

Heidi, have you had time to look images I've sent to you? As if you like quality of Dimage Z3 from Konica-Minolta you can find for around 300 USD or so.

The village is "frozen in time" in the year 1773. It is a living historical village. Many of the buildings are original, while others are rebuilt to the same style and process as was done back in 1773.

Yes I have had a chance to look. Your camera takes nice pictures.

I hope to purchase a professional camera so I can get better quality. I just can't afford it.

Those are great pictures. I love these little historical towns. We have something similar to this in Ybor City (FL), I visited there when I was a kid. They had restored cigar work places and old tools on display.

Hey Heidi,
loved your pictures Grin  We have similar here of "Old " Sydney.

The guy on that tavern sign looks very very similar to Sir Walter Raleigh,  the man who put his cloak over a puddle for  Queen Elizabeth the 1st. to walk over, without getting her feet wet. Tongue

Hi,

Connect with my 18th Century.....hmmm.....Huh?

Let me give you guys some feedback.  My wife and I visited Colonial Williamsburg right after we were married in 1988.  We immediately fell in love with 18th Century History.  When we returned to Philadelphia we joined a Revolutionary War reenactment group.  We started collecting authentic 18th century antiques.  18th century oil Paintings (including portraits of Rev War soldiers), Silver, Pewter, American Furniture, Delft, Prints, Maps, Brass, etc etc etc.  Today we have a collection that is quite extensive.  And we are active in many local reenactments both military and historical between Philadelphia and New York.

We have traveled to Williamsburg almost every year since we were married.  Each year we spent 1-2 weeks staying at the Williamsburg Lodge (you can look this up).  We haved dined at the taverns hundreds of times.   Our 3 daughters are hooked on the 18th century and will contineu to be reenactors when they move on to college, carriers and their own families.

We have visited every Revolutionary War battle sight, important towns and museums from Quebec to Charlestown.  We have spoken at many sights on the 18th Century.  We also traveled to London and participated in events in England.  We belong to a group that portrays both an American unit as well as a British Unit.  I have risen through the ranks to an officer position.

Our dream since we were married was for our kids to go to William and Mary (we are both Ivy League graduates) to retiring and becoming interpreters at Williamsburg.

Connect with my 18th Century.....hmmm.....Huh?

So let's talk about Williamsburg.  During the last 17 years we have continued to grow, learn, develop our collection, enhance our knowledge, etc.

What has happened to Williamsburg?Huh   It has completely gone from an impressive 18th century ideal.......to an unraveling turist trap.  From the "colonial" crap that is now sold in the gift shops to the dismantling of the interpretation programs......Williamsburg today is hardly worth visiting.

18th Century History is our passion.   We would do what ever necessary to at least restore Williamburg back to the 1980's.

Why has this happened?Huh?   Why are you now selling colonial dish towels instead of reproductions?Huh?

I am very interested in speaking with someone at Williamsburg.  We once wanted to retire to the "Colonial Capitol".  Unless things change we will be moving somewhere with more 18th century potential....Dearfield, Mass.....Newcastle Deleware....Society Hill Philadelphia.....Charlestown.....

The question remains...do they want to inspire the next generation reenactors.....or do they want to be an extension of Busch Gardens and sell dish towels with pictures of cats.....

Sincerely!!!!
