Are you looking for a standard HTML web page or would a CMS (Content Management System) do ?

Try doing a search and look for such as PHP Nuke, Post Nuke, Xoops, LDU or Mambo.

To use CMS you would need hosting that gives you PHP and MySQL.

It's very easy to use CMS though and all you would need to do is post articles and news. You also might want to change the design and style of the CMS system, but you can usually get skins that do most of it for you.

Anyway have a think about CMS, but remember that most CMS sites tend to look very similar.

Oh, you might also want to do a search for "free Blog".

A blog is like a personal diary. In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis and people can read what you've got to say.

There is a great program called Trellian WebPage at http://www.trellian.com/webpage/  that works quite well. you can also go to my site and get other free programs and step by step instructions on creating a website for free.  http://donecweb.cjb.cc/
Good luck

If you're unable to grasp DW or FP, then follow the lead of 12noon and try a CMS. You'll still need to be comfortable with the design basics.

Netscape offers an HTML builder called "Composer". It's included with their browser. It's pretty easy to use, but the coding is a little iffy. If you're just making a fun, personal website or something of similar nature, it might work for you. I wouldn't recommend it for any professional or serious website designing.

Yes I can recommend the Quicksitemaker Software that has it's own interface built right into their Trademarked software. I use it all the time. You do not have to lease or buy it off of me but I am a reseller of them.

Do a search on "Quicksitemaker" in MSN Search Engines or you can read about it here  www.quicksitemaker.info

All you need is built right into the interface, it also has over 100 templates and colors and designs to choose from including Blank pages for your own HTML editors if you choose to do do. I use the Blank pages for my Affiliate pages.

Can anyone please recommend a CMS system that is Search engine friendly and you can easily create your own site template?

i.e. I would like it to generate pages without ? in the url and without numerical references.

I am looking for a free php/mysql-based solution that is very simple. I don't need the bells and whilstles of advanced features.

Try Portello it is a free software and actually the only WYSIWYG I have seen that realy live up to be a WYSIWYG.
You just go to the page you want to changed press on a button in the browser and the page is in edit mode. Make the changed and save and your page is done. You find it on http://www.portello.org
You can also use it as file transfer program, and edit with Notepad directly on the web server.

Ok IŽam pushing for but it is for it is a very good program and it is free.
And ofcourse it is a Swede who have develop it. DonŽt worry, you will not need to learn Swedish you can choose the English version during the installation.

if you're on Linux there are two good programs I could recommend, BlueFish and Screem, I've also download Quanta now and going to try it a bit. As for NVU(which by the way have Windows version) I'm not so sure, since it doesn't support working with PHP pages, if this change I'm going to give it another chance.
