I use linkshare and shareasale, they are affiliate networks.

In order of effectiveness:

CJ.com

ClickBank

Google AdWords

for me anyway.

Why don't you start  Plug in Profit site.
Few affiliate program is listed and that
under all your control and it is 100% FREE.
You can see the signature link
to get little more. However, Click Bank
CJ are great !!

I recomend all above.

Pay per click is a great way to monetize a high traffic site but affiliate programs pay much more (where the commission is high like 40%+) if you can get sales.

I felt that I had maxed out with Google so advertised some more ebooks from cj.com and found a suprising boost in commissions.

At least with the PPC the traffic through the site is a continual income. A bit like the hare and the tortoise, I find that I am better off with a bit of income each day than the odd affiliate sale.

Depends on the sites focus I guess aswell.
