I spent many years reading PDF reports and eBooks and finally I realized how anyone can use them as an affiliate marketing tool. I suddenly realized that since I keep downloading these files and even paying for them that maybe I should be publishing them too!

In case anyone doesn't know, PDFs are Adobe format information documents that are easy for anyone to view on a MAC or a PC on any size monitor and easily print them out. When you re-size them, they still look good since the text and graphics are scaled appropriately.

Here is what I realized:
The appearance is better than a web page, even when it is changed in size and it's easy to print out.
You can protect the content from being copied like a cut and paste to make a web page with no effort.
People are conditioned to download the pdf file and save it for future reference.

Here is my 1st attempt at a copy-protected pdf file: http://www.urgentclick.com/pdfs/hide-affiliate-links.pdf

Please provide your comments in this thread.

The only snag is that the links don't work when clicked. I created it with free software and Paint Shop Pro (you could use the GIMP which is free for graphics). My next pdf will probably be about how you can do it too with free software.

Please comment...

What do you think about my first attempt at an eBook?

http://www.urgentclick.com/pdfs/hide-affiliate-links.pdf OK it's only 8 pages but...

Imagine if you could copy this idea using free software so anyone for all time can download, re-distribute, save and copy your pdf file with all your links preserved.

If anyone wants to make free pdf documents with embedded links and protected from cut and paste of the text, I found some free software to do it, it saves you paying $299 to adobe  Grin

There are 3 packages you need to download from http://www.pdf995.com

pdf995 is a printer driver that lets you print from your windows apps to generate a pdf document. Open Office lets you do this for free too which can be used under Linux.

Then you use pdfedit to alter this file such as convert selected text to links.

Then you can encrypt the file to stop people copying the text or graphics with signature995

They add pop-up ads (only to you) and a time delay (when using the software) to the free versions but the end result is great (just as a normal pdf file). I think the cost to remove the nags is around $9.99 per package. I think they do some bundled deals also for low cost.

I think these guys have hit on a great way to market software where we can try it out properly without paying unless we use it hard. Interestingly, I personally have to fork out for 3 packages since they are exactly what I want in exactly the pay sequence they want!

I modified my original file to have a clickable link at the end.  Here is the new version:  www.urgentclick.com/pdfs/hide-affiliate-links.pdf

You can do the same sort of thing using the free software I mentioned above.
