Ive noticed there are a number of people posting in the hosting discussion forum asking for free hosting. Usually what ends up happening is these people find free hosting where you have to put banners on your website, or the host has terrible uptime, and the list goes on. It's very difficult for an everyday person like you or me to find a place to publish their work on the internet for free and get quality service in return. So since I run a hosting business, I am offering a special contest for these people who need free hosting. If you are interested please visit http://NameTyphoon.com and click on the link that says "Promotions". If you have any questions please reply to this post.

You do get what you pay for. A hosting company is a business so there will need to be some revenue source. However, most of the free hosts that operated on the forced advertisement model are now out of business - so that should tell you something.

Oh there is no doubt about it.  Free hosts will come and go and its difficult for them to stay alive.  I wouldnt survive either if I offered free hosting like that.  Im just making this contest available because no matter what, there will always be people on the internet who want to experiment with website design or have their own personal web page but cannot afford hosting or other reasons.  This December contest wont be the only one I have either.  So feel free to check back often if you dont win in the December contest you could always win in a later one.  So far I have about 6 entries.  The odds of winning still arent bad.  I review each entry and determine which person applied the most effort on the entry as well as other factors.  Everyone will have an equal and fair chance of winning if they show they really need the hosting.

Just in case someone has been waiting for a new contest date, I would like to mention that a new date has been picked.  So if you wish to participate in this promotion, feel free to do so. A new drawing will be held about every 2 to 3 months.  Best of luck to anyone who participates.

Hey Mikey, we removed the edit functions for users below "Jr. Member" level. This was due to several incidents where new users were abusing the edit functions. I believe I fixed the typo for you.

Also, do you have a specific URL you would like to provide for information on this promotion?

I would just like to say that the contest deadline on the free hosting is comming up towards the end of September and there are still no entries.  Anyone who is interested in free web hosting, feel free to submit an entry for the contest.  The winner will recieve 1 year of free web hosting.  The plan has 25mb of web space, 300mb of bandwidth per month, absolutely no advertisements required on your pages, unlimited email accounts and sub domains.  This plan is perfict for anyone who wants to have their own personal website.

If anyone is interested, we have eliminated the contest and replaced it with a free hosting request form.  People no longer need to compete for the free hosting plan.  Just fill out the application and accounts will be given out on a first come first serve basis until our free account supply runs out.  Just visit http://NameTyphoon.com/promo.html to access the signup form.

hi Mikey, it's nice to know that some companies out there still offer free hosting, I believe that many good sites started like this and later upgrade for paid hosting. BTW I've also started from free hosting as I simply couldn't afford to pay for it and for domain...
I had one question for you, have you consider text link as an option? This way you could get more than just visitors... if you have a text links  with same text pointed to your domain it could boost ranking of your site in search engines for this phrase, text would work much better than plain image.

Ive thought about text links as well as image links.  In my opinion, they are both pretty effective.  Spiders will still follow a text link to our site to improve a site's rating.  But the downside is that there wont be a text phrase type of link like you have mentioned.  But the positives about the image link is its more visable than a text link.  So its mainly on personal preference.  If someone contacted me about placing a text link instead of an image link, then im sure its not something i would complain about.  Im partnered with a few companies and they have put a text link on their partner's page which really helps us out.  Advertising is one of the most difficult things these days.  Especially for websites.  The only effective method for advertising other then a search engine or word of mouth would be to have an actual television commercial or radio commercial.  How many people actually see popups anymore or even care to pay attention to banner ads.  People have habits of not even noticing them anymore since they are expected and normally ignored. hahaha.  But its still fun running a business such as this.  We are a small company and feel good to be in business providing others with quality hosting at fair prices.  We aren't looking to be millionares, we are just starting out and are trying to make a small profit.  Web hosting is a tough business and if anyone is in it for the money, they are in for a big surprise.  Web hosting is not a money making business.  Unless you have the money to sink into good quality advertising and marketing, youll never make anywhere near what network solutions or rackspace makes.

glad to hear that you give an option for people as it's very wise step IMHO since it benefit to you and give an option for people who have objections to image banners.
Wish luck to your business!

BTW you can always place URL in your signature or in profile as your homepage, it could bring you some more visitors IMHO.
