Hi folks, recently I've decide to get myself TV on the PC, and take two cards in order to try which would work better for me, first one was BT878 based and was installed without major problem, although quality wasn't any good Sad so I've try AverMedia AverTV Studio 305 which is based on Philips Semiconductors saa7130 chip. Kernel identify this tuner automatically and used saa7134 module for it, here is what dmesg gives:

Quote
    saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.12 loaded
    saa7130[0]: found at 0000:01:09.0, rev: 1, irq: 17, latency: 32, mmio: 0xe3010000
    saa7130[0]: subsystem: 1461:2115, board: AverMedia 305 [card=35,autodetected]
saa7130[0]: board init: gpio is 10010
saa7130[0]: i2c eeprom 00: 61 14 15 21 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
saa7130[0]: i2c eeprom 10: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
saa7130[0]: i2c eeprom 20: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
saa7130[0]: i2c eeprom 30: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
tuner: chip found at addr 0xc2 i2c-bus saa7130[0]
    tuner: type set to 38 (Philips PAL/SECAM multi (FM1216ME MK3)) by saa7130[0]
    saa7130[0]: registered device video0 [v4l2]
    saa7130[0]: registered device vbi0
    saa7130[0]: registered device radio0

The problem starts later, now I can scan for programs, watch the video(with a much better quality than on bt chip) but instead of sound I got silence on 2.6.9 or I get white noise on 2.6.8.1(maybe it's not really because of version change but because in 2.6.9 I've put my sound drivers to modules).

have check a lot of forums and mailing lists lately but didn't find anything what would solve my problem yet. But I've got feeling that it's something with PAL-BG(which is reported as default) and PAL-DK(which is used by our cable network) but I couldn't find how to switch them yet. I could be wrong and maybe problem in something different. Anyway I would appreciate any help on this subject.

wasn't bug of any kind actually. Indeed problem was in PAL-DK system which didn't appear in XAWTV by default(I've seen only PAL, SECAM and NTSC), but after I've installed Zapping I was able to watch programs with sound on my current kernel (2.6.9) which make me look deeper into documentation on XAW TV, after some looking I've found out that it somehow related to my NVidia card, as when I'm using default kernel video driver I can watch programs with sound and when I install driver sound mistically disappear, after some reading it's become obvious that XawTV pick first video device it could found (in this case it pick my NVIdia card). it's easily solved by executing these commands:
xawtv -hwscan (this one would print list of all available video devices)
for me it gives this one:
Quote
/dev/video0: OK                         [ -device /dev/video0 ]
    type : v4l2
    name : AverMedia 305
    flags: overlay capture tuner
so next time I run
xawtv  -device /dev/video0
everything work like a charm.

hope this info would be useful to someone.

I've just wish to tell post this update for all folks who consider to buy this card but didn't do it because FM tuner doesn't work properly. Now it's solved with a new kernel 2.6.12, I can tune to all FM stations without any changes to kernel sources. BTW I've found program which works better than xawtv as it using some filters to make image from TV-Card look better it's called TVtime - http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/
And recently I've found program based on XawTV which gives you GUI interface to record programs from TV, XawDecode or XdTV, you can find more info about it here: http://xawdecode.sourceforge.net/htmlpageUS/indexUS.shtml
Although I still prefer to record my programs using command line via streamer Tongue
