Hi guys, I have finally getten into the 21st century. I have purchased a new phone. It has a camera and everything. I feel so cutting edge. I have a lot of images I would love to put as my wallpaper, but my phone won't let me just upload them. I have looked around and found a service that permits me to upload the images for free. Then when I want to download them into my phone as wall paper, I have to pay. Now this got me thinking. So I did some more research and found that there are a lot of sites out there the do this. There are many more sites out there that sell wallpaper also. Most of the wall paper is for the 14 - 24 yr olds. It consists of mostly hip-hop artists, half dressed woman or retro 70s images (i lived through the 70s once, don't need to go back). These images are just not appealing to me. I am looking for something more mature. I have found similar problems with the mp3 ring tones. They are not for a more mature audience. I really don't think it would be good to have a rap song as my ring tone while at work. Ok, call me old fashion, or at least old.

What I would like to do is start a site for wall paper and ringtones that is for the 25 - 75 yr old audience. Something that would offer a variety of themes that cannot be found elsewhere. My problem is I don't know where to start. Obtaining the images and ringtones are not my concern at this point. I am needing more information on the backend. I dont' know the technology needed. Is there someone out there that can give me some advice or at least point me in the correct direction.

Thank you for your well wishes. I hope this will go somewhere. I just don't have a clue where to start. Once I get the back end knowledge, I can move to the front end. The site design and the ringtones and images.

Hi Hope! actually it's great idea, and seems that this part of market isn't filled yet so you have great possibility to do this. I see 3 ways to do this, first one if you wish to work with mobile operators and sign some agreement that they would pay you some percent from the income when someone is ordering some logo or melody via their mobile. Second way is more cheaper(in terms that you don't have to sign and contracts and worry about mobile operators) but a bit more difficult(I could be wrong) for users since they don't order things with their mobile but visit usual shop with pictures and ring tones which they could buy with a credit card or PayPal, but there is positive thing in this, such shop would work worldwide and wouldn't be limited by the area where mobile operator(which work with you) is working(if I have to do such site I would probably choose this way since I don't wish to deal with operators and don't have money for this, it's also could be more complicated too as I don't know a lot about techonogy which is used for sending logos directly to mobile through SMS messages). There is third way to offer 1 and 2 option Smiley
not sure if info I've posted above would be any help but if you have more questions let me know. If you interesting in the 1st option let me know and I'll try to ask my friends how it's organized in our country and what technologies are used.

I have found a lot of sites out there, but most only work with European phone companies. I don't want to be limited. It might be that i have to do a site that permits downloads and then the user has to upload with a program like "webjal" or "myjal". That is actually how I have been adding my pictures to my phone. Since I have what I want, it is just a matter of sizing and uploading to the phone.

You need to make sure your site is WAP enabled for the cell phone user to be able not only read what you have but to download from your site. Your host will be able to tell you if your site is wap enabled. From there all you need to do is create the pages that will work with the cell phones (again wap pages).

Not to toot our own horn but all sites hosted on our servers are WAP enabled. To find a plan that fits your needs go to http://www.mywebteks.com

Hello, as far as the backend goes you could easily build a website like this at www.websitextra.com

It does all design work for you with an integrated shopping cart, mailing list, customer list and more.  I think it could really make life easy for you!

Check it out and let me know what you think...

I am not looking for design or shopping cart assistance. I am an experienced designer and webmaster, so I can handle that side of it.

"I dont' know the technology needed. Is there someone out there that can give me some advice or at least point me in the correct direction."

From your quote above...

The site I gave you gives you a complete backend to give you the technology that I thought you were looking for.  Sorry, I must've misunderstood you.

I am sorry if my statement was misleading. I am looking for the backend technology that will assist me with delivering the ringtones and wallpapers to the phone. The shopping cart and the design I am very familiar with. This is something that most of the regulars are aware of. It was my assumption that they would be the only ones responding.
