I was just perusing other Web designers sites (I'm starting a course in Web development Aug. 23rd - finally!  Grin )...anyway, I found this on one site and since I'm such a novice, I thought I'd check here, where so many of you are SO much more "in the know" than I am right now!

PS.  Missed everyone - but you'll be tired of me soon!  Embarrassed

First a warning: If you are paying less than $30 a month for hosting, you could be losing business. Especially if your large hosting company hosts casinos, malls, porn, or illegal activities. These site IP's have either been banned or separated from the regular search engines for a long time. $30 a month allows you to have your own dedicated IP. This is like owning your own home on the web. Also, do you want your business associated with ethical business hosting or a conglomerate of cheap porn kings.

If you've never had a site online, don't be confused by all the packages everyone offers. Basically, you need the package below with or without e-commerce and that is all you need to start with. Later on, you can add additional services as needed. Of all the website design companies on the web, only a few can get you listed on search engines and fewer can guarantee your success! Eagle Web is one of those companies!

OOPS! If you want to know where this is, here's the link:

Well, yes and no. There are some problems with lower cost hosts. You just need to figure out what you are wanting in a host. See what else is hosted at the site. Search engines do ban / penalize IP some times. But usually if the block is being a problem. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It sounds more like they are trying to scare you into using them instead of something more inline with your budget. They are not offering much for the $30/month. The only think I see is the static IP, however you are alimited on the number of email addresses.

That's pretty much what I suspected.  I checked, in every way I could think of, on my host and couldn't find any problems with them, thankfully.

I wasn't very impressed with their offer, either... Tongue

Well I'm with All in One and have (all together with clients) 5 sites now I think

charges are $4 US, and I can't see Joe getting in with porn or anything like that, he's pretty respectable.

But you can get hosting for just about any price, from what Joe has said industry standards are about $1 per gig of bandwidth.

Agree with Hope about wanting you to use them.

there's a few things you should be aware of about pricing...

Why some host compaines are cheaper than others?

I'm sure you heard of the saying, "you get what you pay for".  Well it's true!  Especially, when you buy cheap hosting packages.

Some things to consider when purchasing an account:
  • DISK SPACE
  • BANDWIDTH
  • Do they provide an uptime guarantee?
  • Do they provide email and virus protection?
  • Do they offer free 24/7 support?
  • Do they offer free setup?
  • Do they offer a RISK-FREE money back gurantee?
  • What type of server will your account be housed in?
  • Do they offer discounts for pre-payments?
  • Do they run any specials?
  • Do they offer dedicated IPs?
  • Do they offer ADDON DOMAINS?
  • Will they help you in building your web site?  Some big hosting companies do not have the resources to help you get started.  Some will even charge you.

If you are a webmaster you should be reselling.
Additional questions you should ask:
  • Do they offer a customize branded control panel (your own name on it)?  Why should you advertise another hosting service?  In most cases, hosting companies offer a generic control panel and/or they do not offer brandable control panels for your business.

All of this will tell you why some hosting companies charge more than others.  It will also help you decide which hosting company is better for you.

Great info gt - thank you.  I really think that site was using a very unprofessional tactic to try to get you to do business with them.

If you are referring to images of dolls, we can help you. It is a matter of uploading the image to the server and linking to the image with a basic html text.

I'll say one thing for them, they at least have their own trademark.  I sell a Trademarked software web sites too, so I am impressed with that aspect of them at least. As far as their hosting services go, ya never know till ya try it. I had www.rackshack.net for my forums and they were ok but real expensive. They were always hollering at me for bandwidth overages too. So I just closed the thing down and now they don't get that 140.00 per month from me. it was www.wcgalaxy.com    some here may remember it. I had   www.sitetutor.net   too and I sold it and I never got paid for it, so I am a bit burnt around the edges about forums now and their hosting services. But no fault but my own. I am happy with my own sites now and they come with hosting services at 8 dollars a month and I have never looked back. oohdale.com
