The grass always looks greener on the other side.

It might be the weather though and the fact that all these countries speak English. Even Spain !

No , it's the lower cost of living and less stress that attracts us to other countries.

The weather is very nice in the UK, not too hot, not too cold.

In the UK, anyone with any money is taxed heavily (40% on webmaster ;-) income and 17.5% on purchases from that income to start with) to pay for the social services and other stuff. Also, we have to work our butts off to keep our heads above water level. I leave it to other people to fill in the details. For example a 50 cl bottle of water costs £1

when I was in Spain I've got feeling that noone speak English there, we had to locate a port and have tried to speak with people on the street, most of them won't talk or said that they didn't know English, we hardly manage to find English speaking person there...

Andy, prices provided by you are really scary... Personlly I would like to visit England but if say truth I won't live there just because of climate. actually climate is changing so I could change my mind as well Smiley

In the US we are experiencing a flood of Mexicans. In my city it is awsome! They seem to not practice any birth control and U.S. Welfare(at the taxpayers expense) makes it a nice place to come. Apparently President Bush made some kind of deal with the Mexican government. It's really turning out awful. They seem to have 20 people living in a one family residence and the numbers of that going on is huge.

Even if I recognize that my region and my country can be gorgious, I would love to go in another one in the future. If the law doesn't change, when I'll be 55, I'll be abble to stop working. It's young and I'll love th start something new! I think about USA, Scotland, Canada... I'd love a country where I could find space! Here in the south of France, we have less and less open spaces, the prices are burning. Well, I have 11 years to think about it!

I think the only people speaking English in Spain are in the beach resorts and English retirement complexes. Beware the Spanish land-grab where they are taking peoples land for new developments (including pools and charging costs of infrastructure development) and poor planning considerations where tower blocks are springing up in front of peoples unspoilt views without notification. It is apparently a nightmare for around 10% of English immigrants.

Most of the nice palces in Scotland are probably owned by English land barons for the game shoots and lochs.

USA is clamping down on every foreigner in light of the terror fears. Also, I don't want to dodge the bullets on the wrong turn from Miami airport.

Canada seems good apart from the points system making it difficult to get in unless you offer high value to their country. The same goes for Australia. Like you should generally be under 45 years old and be a professional or investor/employer.

If you have a good passive income (here is where the webmaster stuff kicks in ;-) in your local home country, you could buy property in various countries and rent them while you don't live there and stay for the tourist visa peiod in each place. Moving around the world. After all, why work when you can surf?

rosie -> there is always a need for low-pay workers. This is probably why you are seeing this phenomena. The US has a massive debt problem unlike the world has ever known that has to be reduced somehow. This maybe a start.
