How do you motivate yourself to do things that could make significant improvements to your life?

For example I got fat and only when I was shocked enough reading 100Kgs on the scales did I do something. Now I am close to a six pack body style.

Also, now I have the ability to make a website that would allow me to retire but the effort to generate the content is holding me back. I had to watch some videos of someone else earning 10x more than me to get me moving. Even now, I am not moving so much.

From previous experience, it helps a great deal to be involved with similarly minded people with a strong desire to succeed. This is what I liked about doing mlm business. I used to do NSA and I loved the business opportunity meetings.

if it comes to me it's hard to find good motivation for anything Smiley the best one is to do something or to work is to ensure good future to my family.

this is very good way to become motivated, once you become a part of the team it really helps in the things you're doing.

Once i start doing something like painting a room in the house. I want to see the end product, so will spend time to make sure it looks the way i want it to look. But motivation for other things that take longer to see the end product are harder for me.

BTW like a lot of others, i come on the Internet each day wanting to do something and by the time i turn my PC off i still haven't done it. It's not motivation, it's called getting sidetracked.

I am in my forties. I have been "devoted " to the antique business for 13  years now. I love it so much and I was actually collecting and buying things when I was a teen and wish I would have started sooner. I am motivated by time. I feel like I wasted some years and wasn't doing "my perfect job" for me.I have done some pretty wierd jobs! Some good ones! I thought I wanted to be a journalist and have had some good work there. At one time I spent a week "picking worms"! LOL! I wore a headlite like a miner and went into a filbert field late at nite and got so much per thousand worms! LOL! It ended real quik! I went to my car for something and was so blinded by looking for worms with that lite I poked my car antenna in my eye , had to go to emergency hospital, thus erasing all the earnings of the week to pay for the bill!!!! LOL! Well, guess I was not cut out to be a worm picker! Eye was fine after a few days!BBBBUT
point is I am NOW DOING WHAT I LOVE! tHAT and TIME are MY motivation!

The greatest gift anyone can have is to love your work. I am very lucky.

Lottery would do nothing for me. I would contnue working no matter how much money I had. So I have never even bought a ticket.

Hows that for luck?

With the lottery, I'd stop work immediatly!!! I'll start another life, travelling a lot, involved in associations, I'd try to write about what I'd see... Yeah: no more work! Even if I like it!

Philou - I think you just described what work you should be doing right now! A travel writer. You don't need alot of money, just sell your home and possessions to fund it. Like Larry who just needed some paint and some dip tanks ;-)

Maybe you can write about places you already visited to start off?

Maybe, and I would have do it if I was the only one to be involved in such a decision... My job makes the life of my family nice and easy. I don't think that my children would accept it... During your lifetime, you can not do "what you want when you want" (sorry it sounds trange). Sometimes you have to wait for a better time, for better conditions.

I have no regrets. I love my job, but... But... if it happens: ciao!

I have crazy motivation, I wish you could borrow some of mine.    I have too much!!!!   I write movie scripts, dance all the time, I want to be an actress, hell the sky is the limit!    My advice, get of your ass and JUST DO IT!    Make a plan use will power and stick to it.
People are often stuck in the stage of precontemplation or denial.   They internalize and blame themselves or strike out at others and project their weaknesses on to people who don't deserve it.   Freud says that conciousness raising is the most important first step.   Most of us are like lights in a dark library.   We need to get together IN PERSON (not on a computer) and develop a sense of community!   Easier said than done.
It can be difficult to find groups that meet and suit your area of interest.   Why not start a motivation group in you area?   You could meet with other people who want to achieve the same things you do.   Again easier said than done, but do SOMETHING and don't feel sorry for yourself!   Reach out to other people.   It is a good first step to post your desire to change on a web site.   This kind of public announcement helps to solidify your motivation,  good work!   Also seek out people who support the change and encourage you to do so.

However, I wonder if Freud was as active as you are.........Horses for courses, you know Tongue

Who says that motivation isn't based on need, want or dreams anyway?
